design flaws
by Awesome Joolie

Question by Chinkmann: Why is the human body so poorly designed?

The human body is one of them most poorly designed pieces of crap I have ever seen. It has so many flaws. How has evolution come up with such a stupid design? Who ever designed our weak, pathetic bodies is a moron. Don’t give me that God bullshit because its a f*cking fairytale.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-476607/The-tantalising-design-flaws-bodged-bodies.html covers about 1/1000000000000000000 of our flaws.

If a dog food brand’s been recalled, why is it still on market?

product recall

Question by Butterfly: If a dog food brand’s been recalled, why is it still on market?

If a dog food brand’s been recalled/put on recall list, then why isn’t it off the market and out of stores?

What brands are recently on recall?

Best answer:

Answer by mammafish
If it is was recalled it should be off the shelf. If it is still for sale, its because it has been restocked and is now not part of the recall.

Q&A: What size box should I have to maximize SPL?

stupid design
by John Kannenberg

Question by Joshua: What size box should I have to maximize SPL?

Okay so I am having a custom box made for my 15″ Memphis Mojo (15-CM15D2) I’m going to be pushing it with a 2k Memphis Mojo amp. I currently drive a 2000 Grand Prix GTP, so its a trunk bumper. I want to find out the shape, cubic ft, and design that would be the best for my vehical and other sedans. I would like to be competition capable if I ever find some money worth dropping into the system.

Best answer:

Answer by N2Audio
Before you get too deep into this…
Last summer I put a 15″ in my nephew’s GP (’99).
The box was around 4 cubic feet ported to the mid 30’s. No unusual shape – basically just a rectangle – leaning toward a simple cube.
It was too large to fit in the trunk assembled. I had to remove a couple panels to get it in the trunk, then rebuild it there.
Quite a pain.

That being said – the Diamond D6 15″ getting around 1000w rms is stupid loud and sounds good too.

Your combo SHOULD about blow you out of the car and sound good doing it if it’s done right.

Q&A: Why do they design airplane seats this way?

stupid design
by StephanieBell: EmergingPhoto.ca

Question by Aida Renolds: Why do they design airplane seats this way?

The head rest on airplane seats tilt downwards forcing you to hunch your neck and head forward – it’s sooo uncomfortable! Why don’t the head rests tilt back, or at least sit straight up and down.

Head and neck cushions help a little, but why oh why do they design the chairs this way?!

Both fun and serious answers are appreciated 🙂

Best answer:

Answer by seasail
Yes that is annoying, maybe because when you lean the chair back the person behind you won’t fell like your head is in their face. Maybe they were designed for shorter people. I was on this flight once and the girl ahead of me reclined her chair all the way and I felt squashed the whole flight.

With all the recalls on pet food what human foods can a pet eat?

Question by DuSteDShaDoW: With all the recalls on pet food what human foods can a pet eat?

I was thinking that with all the recalls on pet food, that it may be safer to just cook and feed them foods that I know what is going into it, and not leaving it to a food production company, so what human foods would be safe and provide the necessary nutrition (vitamins and minerals) for a cat?

salmon, tuna, cottage cheese, yogurt.

How can I contract structural engineering services for a sculpture online and inexpensively?

engineering failures
by thisisbossi

Question by NixPhenom: How can I contract structural engineering services for a sculpture online and inexpensively?

I need to have the strength of a bent piece of sheet metal analyzed to see the maximum load it can support given some gauge of stainless steel. I would also like some process engineering services to determine the best way to assemble the final sculpture. I would like to know the best and most economical way to contract these services online.

Answer by Dave D
Go here to search the various structural engineering firms:-

https://online.acec.org/acecforum/acecLogin.asp

They ain’t cheap! Some sculptors have hired firms like these, but you need a wealthy sponsor such as the City of New York or whomever.

Or you could get yourself a copy of Solid Works and do your own analysis.

Or you could build a test piece and measure the failure load yourself.

Sculptors and civil engineers are not generally a happy mix. You will have your work cut out for you, as all sculptors do. The ways to stay on the right side of an engineer are as follows:-

1) All financial arrangements must be agreed in advance. Do not show up with no money and ask what to do next!
2) Always follow through immediately on things like returning phone calls, providing information and so forth.
3) Do not change anything once you have asked for an analysis to be performed. If necessary, do another analysis (at extra cost, of course) later.

Good luck – you are going to need it!
