An infomercial for Kevin Trudeau’s Mega Memory System claimed that scientific studies of his system showed that it could help anyone achieve a photographic memory, even people with learning disabilities or low IQ’s. “Kevin Trudeau’s breakthrough techniques were developed while working with blind and mentally handicapped students,” the infomercial said. “Their recall ability increased from 15% to 90% in just 5 days,” it said, and stated that the techniques were “. . . guaranteed to work for you.” In fact, the FTC alleges, the memory system would not enable users to achieve a photographic memory, and the advertising claims were false.

To settle the FTC charges, Kevin Trudeau, who developed and appeared in all the infomercials, including the one for his “Mega Memory System,” will pay 0,000 in consumer redress and will be barred from making false claims for the products in the future.

Why do adoptive parents want a baby that looks like them?

stupid design
by fish2000

Question by cowboy_fan: Why do adoptive parents want a baby that looks like them?

I asked in a previous post about people only wanting white babies. One of the prevailing answers is that people want a baby who looks like them. Why do adoptive parents want their baby to look like them? To be honest, I think this is a stupid answer. Other than that I really can’t come up with anything else. I think this makes no difference at all in the parent adoptee relationship. What are your thoughts? For some reason I can’t gather my thoughts around this so if somebody could help it would be great.

So they can tell the baby they are its biological parents.

Q&A: Why do people want to teach intelligent design in schools?

Question by Chris K: Why do people want to teach intelligent design in schools?

so, I just watched most of Ben Stein’s documentary: “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed”. Basically, the only clips of people who were for the theory of evolution were something like this:”intelligent design is stupid! Why would you ever believe something as stupid as that?” Ok, intelligent design is not a scientific theory. For one, it is not falsifiable. How could I possibly even try to prove you wrong? If you can show me an elephant fossil that dated to the Precambrian era, I might be a little bit more skeptical about the theory of evolution. Two, an intelligent designer is NOT the most parsimonious explanation for the origins of life on Earth. Yes, I know, cells are very complicated. However, I find it a much simpler explanation that life arose through something like the RNA world hypothesis that I do that the first cell was created by some kind of supreme being. I’m sorry, but I just gotta vent a little after seeing something like that. Don’t get it confused, intelligent design is not science, and it would be a real dis-service to kids to teach it in schools.

How do we test ID:

Here is a brief overview of the scientific case for ID:

And for those who put so much faith in peer-review:

==========================

Most Christians I know don’t want biblical creationism taught in science classes (they would butcher it, and then there’s the argument about all the other creation stories being taught). What we want is for microbes-to-man evolution to be taught with all its warts—in most states, they are not even allowed to present evidence that would put evolution in a poor light. And we want Intelligent Design to at least be mentioned (with teachers free to discuss it without fear of being sacked). Unlike alchemy, storks bringing babies, a flat earth, etc., a significant percentage of the (tax paying) population believes in ID (which is agnostic regarding the source of design and encompasses every “creation” story).

See the New World Encyclopedia entry on Intelligent Design:
http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Intelligent_design

Good science teaching should include controversies. But, whenever you mention this kind of stuff, Darwinists jump from their trees and start behaving as if someone had stolen their bananas. Apparently, academic freedom is for other subjects. At the moment, educators are in the interesting position of not teaching students, but instead conditioning them to recite the “correct” answers without a second thought to other possible explanations. Today’s science education does not sufficiently emphasize inquiry-based learning.

What are the Darwinists afraid of? A little critical analysis never hurt anyone who had the evidence on their side. The Darwinists worship their idol but don’t listen to him. He said, “A fair result can be obtained only by fully stating and balancing the facts and arguments on both sides of each question…” (Charles Darwin, Origin of Species).

Evolutionists typically claim that the evidence for modern Darwinism is “overwhelming.” But they act as if they know the evidence is so shaky that the slightest whiff of open discussion will topple the theory. If high school students are capable of understanding the arguments and evidence for modern evolutionary theory, then they should be able to understand (and rationally discuss) scientific criticisms of modern evolutionary theory.

Walmart recalls GE food processors
Around 255,000 General Electric Food Processors sold exclusively at Walmart have been voluntarily recalled due to a risk of laceration and fire, the government said on Wednesday.
The safety interlock system on the recalled food processor can fail, exposing blades while in operation, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.
Food processors can also emit smoke or catch fire.
There have been 58 reports of incidents, 21 of which resulted in injuries to fingertips and three in fire.
The product is a black with stainless steel trim 14-cup food processor with a 169203 model number.

Answering the question “what do I want to be when I grow up” is incredibly hard for most people. It is very common to change your mind a lot. VERY common- knowing what you want to do, and holding onto that forever, is pretty uncommon. Some people never know the answer and simply have to find something good enough to make a living that won’t drive them crazy.

There are career counselors available at most high schools and colleges. If you are in school, check out if there is a guidance counselor or career counselor who can help you work through this a bit.

What features would you want from a lighting design?

Question by Ewen: What features would you want from a lighting design?

If you work in an office environment (or can imagine working in an office environment!), what would you want from the lighting that you use on a daily basis? This could be in the form of mechanical features, or simply what kind of artificial light source you want.

Please take time to answer this question. I would really like all your thoughts, even if you think they may sound stupid. Any input is valuable to me.

Cheers

Dimmers are always a nice feature to have 🙂
Or you can go with those artificial sunlight lights. Those supposedly keep peoples moods a little more elevated…(which especially in a cubical setting could be a great thing)

Just no florescent lighting!!! That will drive people insane!

I would want a feature that you can install in the ceiling as well as a floor lamp.

For the ceilinh fixture i would also like some sort of fan that goes with it as well.. a dimmer would be perfect and in the light fixture it would be nice to have a glass fixture with different colors so that it is sort of opaque and when u turn the light on it isnt as bright but still bright enough so that you can see.

if you go to google and search floor lamps in images you will see a ton of interresting floor lamps

i was once watching hgtv design star and this one guy made a lamp that was made of a thin copper pipe that he bolted to a brick wall and just a simple regular light bulb screwed in at the top witout a lampshade i thought that was a very interresting idea
