What features would you want from a lighting design?
Question by Ewen: What features would you want from a lighting design?
If you work in an office environment (or can imagine working in an office environment!), what would you want from the lighting that you use on a daily basis? This could be in the form of mechanical features, or simply what kind of artificial light source you want.
Please take time to answer this question. I would really like all your thoughts, even if you think they may sound stupid. Any input is valuable to me.
Cheers

Dimmers are always a nice feature to have 🙂
Or you can go with those artificial sunlight lights. Those supposedly keep peoples moods a little more elevated…(which especially in a cubical setting could be a great thing)
Just no florescent lighting!!! That will drive people insane!

What you need is the correct combination of fused and defused light. Remember it’s a working environment so it has to be practical.
Energy efficiency is also very important.
If it is in a workshop then you have to be careful when selecting your lighting because it can make machines like grinders and Planes look like they are off when they are running. That can be very dangerous.
Temperature can be an issue too. Lots of spotlights tend to heat the room wasting energy as it fights against the AC.
Durability, if its in a public area it should be difficult to break or bend if someone bumps up against it.
The bulbs you select should be dimable if need be. Automation is finding its way everywhere and its better to be prepaired.
That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. I hope it helps.
