Protein is the most misunderstood nutrient in bodybuilding. I don’t have the space to tell you all you need to know so I’ll just hit the high spots and if you need more info, you can message my Yahoo account.

Don’t listen to muscleheads, gym rats, bodybuilders, personal trainers, and even coaches about protein. Most of them believe what decades and $$$$millions in supplement advertising have been telling them…that they need a lot of protein to build muscle. Not true. Here’s how much you need according to the best minds in the world at the US NIH, the people our doctors listen to. –> http://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/everyone/basics/protein.html#How%20much%20protein You can easily get that amount of protein with a glass of milk and a chicken breast or piece of meat per day.

Bodybuilders don’t work as hard as they would like to believe. Construction workers, migrant field hands, movers, UPS drivers, etc. all work much harder every week. And none of those people worry about protein or take supplements for their jobs. They just eat a good diet and their bodies adapt with no problem. A bodybuilder can only work out 10 hours a week tops because of the recovery time required by the muscles. Marathon runners, boxers, Olympic athletes, Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, etc. all train much harder and they do it without supplements.

Most protein supplements are scams. According to the NIH, you should use supplements only when recommended by a doctor. —> http://ods.od.nih.gov/Health_Information/ODS_Frequently_Asked_Questions.aspx#Need That’s good advice because the government does not require testing and the information on the label does not even have to be in the bottle. Supplements have minimal FDA controls so you don’t know what you’re getting when you buy a supplement.

Check out this list of over 60 dangerous supplements products sold with bogus advertising claims which scam-site bodybuilding.com was forced to recall and take off the market –> http://www.usrecallnews.com/2009/11/bodybuilding-com-supplements-recalled-may-contain-steroids.html .

Go here –> http://www.usrecallnews.com/page/2?s=protein and page through the products to see how many protein supplements have been recalled for Samonella poisoning and other reasons.

All you need to make the gains you can is food. There is an abundance of information to prove this point. So, I will give you examples and cite references in the space I have left. Just be sure to ask yourself if you ever saw any good scientific evidence suggesting you need 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight or more. The answer will be no. That’s a huge myth. And, all the naysayers who disagree with me will not have any good science for you. All they’ll have are ads, phony reviews, bogus testimonials, false scientific sounding white papers, etc. all paid for by scammers like this one. —> http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5196740n&tag=related;photovideo

Here’s a white paper which debunks the myth of the protein supplement. Note the following excerpt…“At present there is no evidence to suggest that supplements are required for optimal muscle growth or strength gain.”
Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15212752

Here’s one more study to read. Note the excerpt…”Consumption of a recovery drink (whey protein, amino acids, creatine, and carbohydrate) after strength training workouts did not promote greater gains in FFM (Fat free muscle) compared with consumption of a carbohydrate-only drink.”
Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15105028

Here’s another from Live Science. Note the excerpt…“Medical researchers have advised against protein supplements for years for the average person. But many sports trainers continue to push them on amateur athletes simply because they don’t know any better.”
Ref: http://www.livescience.com/health/protein-supplements-100202.html#

Here’s what Consumer Reports had to say —> Ref: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine-archive/2010/july/food/protein-drinks/overview/index.htm

Q&A: What size box should I have to maximize SPL?

stupid design
by John Kannenberg

Question by Joshua: What size box should I have to maximize SPL?

Okay so I am having a custom box made for my 15″ Memphis Mojo (15-CM15D2) I’m going to be pushing it with a 2k Memphis Mojo amp. I currently drive a 2000 Grand Prix GTP, so its a trunk bumper. I want to find out the shape, cubic ft, and design that would be the best for my vehical and other sedans. I would like to be competition capable if I ever find some money worth dropping into the system.

Best answer:

Answer by N2Audio
Before you get too deep into this…
Last summer I put a 15″ in my nephew’s GP (’99).
The box was around 4 cubic feet ported to the mid 30’s. No unusual shape – basically just a rectangle – leaning toward a simple cube.
It was too large to fit in the trunk assembled. I had to remove a couple panels to get it in the trunk, then rebuild it there.
Quite a pain.

That being said – the Diamond D6 15″ getting around 1000w rms is stupid loud and sounds good too.

Your combo SHOULD about blow you out of the car and sound good doing it if it’s done right.

Q&A: What major should I choose: Interior Design or International Business?

Question by Alexa: What major should I choose: Interior Design or International Business?

I love the artistic side and the architectural side of interior design. When I walk into a room in any building I see how it can be better and Ive taken a summer workshop at the Art Institute. However, I love to learn about cultures and my dream would be able to travel. I feel like I have a knack for business. I cant do a double major in these, so I must choose one. Thank You!

Best answer:

Answer by Doc Martin
Neither.

Interior Design is in deep recession and will be for the rest of the decade.

Companies don’t hire “International Businessmen” straight from school. It’s a bogus degree.

Q&A: What should I do with this stupid parody?

stupid design
by Thomas Willemsen

Question by iub fifuulm ppp: What should I do with this stupid parody?

Hi, I’ve written a short 10min parody based on Desperate housewives, brothers and sisters, and NCIS. Its complicated and a little stupid, impossible to film, and it has to develop into something by the end of the school year. WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH THIS????? THANKS!!!

Best answer:

Answer by Mike
If it’s technically impossible to film, or physically impossible to perform, and you actually need to film/perform it at the end of this school year, then your first step is to make it possible to perform. If its designed to be filmed and it involves someone doing something impossible, a bit of green screen is cheap and easy to use; or if it requires funding for what you want to do, then see if you can find ways of doing it on the cheap. It’s a parody like you said, so the quality doesn’t have to be professional film. Also it sounds like you’re a student, so again the quality will not be the most important thing.

I’m not sure whether your asking what next steps to take with the writing or the script as a finished product?

If it’s the former then remember it’s a parody, so scour the tv shows your parodying and read reviews/public opinion to see what opens up as something you can make fun of. If it’s the latter then find a band of friends or people on the school acting scene and rehearse/perform it.

I hope I haven’t missed the point!

I have no experience with photographers, and I really do not even know what the cost for a service like this would be. I feel stupid calling someone blind and not even knowing what to ask. Should we avoid calcium and magnesium in hair products?

product recall
by USCPSC

Question by Denise H: Should we avoid calcium and magnesium in hair products?

Hard water is bad for hair because of calcium and magnesium. Most organic substances contain calcium and magnesium (even fruit). Wouldn’t the ingredients in hair products have those components as well? And if so why aren’t we concerned about hair creams, shampoos, gels, and conditioners as well?

Best answer:

Answer by Sur La Mer
If you’re too concern about the hard water in your hair, rinse them with bottled water. That’s what I use when I’m traveling. Some celebrities, ship Perrier Water to wherever they’re vacationing, and wash their hair with bottled Perrier water or spring water.

Anything that’s in our shampoos, whether OTC or Salon products, can’t be that bad, they’ve had the same ingredients since the 60’s, when bottled shampoos came out. Before then, we’ve used a bar of soap to wash our hair. The FDA recalled a product this week that’s organic. Not everything is safe anymore!

I don’t use conditioner on my hair, and my profile shows that cheap OTC .99 shampoo on sale can’t be that bad. What’s bad and damaging to hair: hair dyes (causes hair loss), perming, relaxers (contains formaldehyde causing cancer), hair straightening (causes hair to not grow normally), heating curlers, anti-acne products, Proactive which contains carcinogen causing cancer, washing in hot water (in those order).

Q&A: Is there building code on where the central AC compressors should be installed?

Question by TfC_137: Is there building code on where the central AC compressors should be installed?

Our new construction home is scheduled to close next month., but the location of the AC compressors is really annoying. The compressors were right on one edge of our extented patio at first. I think that is a design flaw I had not expected. Other houses don’t have our issues since our house is flipped. I expressed my concern to the builder on the safety (kids will play on the patio)and noise issues. They said it was impossible to move to the other side at the current stage. However they did move a little bit to allow a seperation (one foot, with some plants put there). I really appreciate their gesture. But is that really what can be done? Is is possible that the current location violates some building code? How to find out if that is the case?

Best answer:

Answer by glenn
With the pipes and electrical box, I would bet it is very expensive to move at this stage. Building code is different in every city. Your city might have something about this but I can’t imagine that they would.

Q&A: What color should i paint the paneling in my kitchen?

Question by Brandon: What color should i paint the paneling in my kitchen?

Hey, just bought a house and in the kitchen, the bottom half of the wall is wood paneling. The only reason I’m unsure is because I am staining the cabinets a darker ash wood color and I don’t think it would look right to have the cabinets darker than the paneling? The colors I have in mind for the upper walls is between a darker taupe or a bold but muted shade of orange. I want my kitchen to feel kind of masculine and lived in, so I chose black counters and brushed nickel modern fixtures. Any design ideas for this stupid paneling would be appreciated.

Best answer:

Answer by Sincere Betrayal
It depends on whether you want a classic or modern kitchen tiling. If you’d go for classic i would suggest using dark brown or grey.
