How many oil rigs have a similar design flaw to the one that failed in the gulf?
Question by retrovertigo: How many oil rigs have a similar design flaw to the one that failed in the gulf?
Everybody is saying how BP cut corners on that rig…or wellhead equipment. (you have to pardon me, I am not an expert) Does anybody know how many other ones there are?

What design flaw?
I think you are confusing wellhead equipment with the rig specifications!
EDIT:
The design of every wellhead is pretty much unique. It depends on a large number of technical factors relating to pipe sizes which vary from well to well. The rig design had very very little to do with the “accident”. It is a complicated series of technical issues that are to blame, but at the end of the day it is/was bad decisions that were the cause of the blowout. The circumstances that led to the problems, although not unique, are rare. They have to do with the position (vertically) of reservoirs of different reservoir pressure, and an inability to cement in “production casing” if you lose “circulation” of the much heavier cement in behind the production casing. Normally this is not a fatal problem, but reliance on faulty backup systems, some which appear to have been known to be faulty (Blowout Preventers).
The rig and even the equipment itself, had very little to do with the problem.

Q&A: Good morning. What should be done about all those defective products we receive from China?
Question by Still Beautifully Conservative: Good morning. What should be done about all those defective products we receive from China?
With the recent recalls from the Mattel Corporation of their toys and other things, should we boycott them?
Or demand Mattel (or any other company for that matter) to keep a closer eye on how their toys and products are produced in China?
Or demand that they start producing their products here in the US and we, the consumer, pay the higher price for them?
All thoughts on this matter are gratefully appreciated.

Logitech V450 laptop mouse Mini-Receiver Design Flaw!?
Question by Anselmo: Logitech V450 laptop mouse Mini-Receiver Design Flaw!?
After reading through many posts on the logitech forums, I still have not found a solution to this problem.
Basically, my V450 mouse will not respond. Everything indicates that it should work and after going through all the suggested troubleshooting steps, including re-installing setpoint, it still doesn’t work.
One of the posts suggested that there is a design flaw in the mini-receiver and indicated that using a usb hub will solve the problem. However, I tried 2 different usb hubs/extensions and it still doesn’t work. The only thing that works for me is if I physically push down on the mini-receiver with my hand while it’s plugged into either my computer or the usb hub. Then the mouse will work until I take the pressure off again. This causes me to suspect that it is indeed a fatal design flaw with the contacts inside the mini-receiver.
Is there a product recall or faq issued about this problem? If the mini-receiver has been redesigned, where can I obtain a replacement?

If it’s never worked, and you live in UK, you should send it back for a refund/replacement ASAP. Under the Sale of Goods Act it must be of merchantable quality – ie. it must work. It’s not good enough that it works on someone else’s kit.

Welcome to Jesusland Part 19 – Stephen Hawking is an Idiot?
Response to: “Stephen Hawking is an Idiot” — TheResident www.youtube.com Well it was time to respond to a female user, after 18 parts in the Welcome to Jesusland series. After making this video, I have to say that I do not think TheResident (or Lori Harfenist) is stupid or an ignorant; indeed, she comes across as being well informed on politics. However, she seems to be completely ignorant when it comes to religion and science, especially when she has to respond to a well-known scientist’s simple opinion on the afterlife. So Stephen Hawking is an idiot? Yeah, the man who only enhanced our knowledge of black holes and helped millions of people get interested in science sure has done some IDIOTIC things (sarcasm, of course). Nevertheless, this is like if I were to call Charles Darwin an idiot because of his discoveries on evolution, or Noam Chomsky on his work in linguistics. You cannot simply call an intellectual an idiot because it only makes you look worse. Lower Bartonsville Covered Bridge collapses into the Williams River in Vermont
This covered bridge built in 1870 could not survive the raging water of the Williams River in Lower Bartonsville village in the town of Rockingham, Windham County, VT. We were hoping all day the water would not reach the top of the abutment but the bridge lost its battle rather gracefully as it floated a bit down stream before breaking into pieces. Our town has set up a fund to rebuild our historic bridge go to www.rockbf.org for more information.

Answer by DeannetheGreat
Get a lawyer. It will be too much trouble to wade through the legal quagmire otherwise. But only do so if the injury was substantial and it can be linked to the product’s defect.
