Q&A: Good morning. What should be done about all those defective products we receive from China?

consumer product recalls

Question by Still Beautifully Conservative: Good morning. What should be done about all those defective products we receive from China?

With the recent recalls from the Mattel Corporation of their toys and other things, should we boycott them?

Or demand Mattel (or any other company for that matter) to keep a closer eye on how their toys and products are produced in China?

Or demand that they start producing their products here in the US and we, the consumer, pay the higher price for them?

All thoughts on this matter are gratefully appreciated.

I think we should boycott anything made in China and that our gov’t should put a block on all imports from China. I do not mind paying more to get goods that are of good quality and are not health risks to my child, my dogs or myself.

I think the american corporations need to be held accountable for imports,

and I would rather pay more for toys for my son then cheap ones that might seriously damage him

As much as we would all like to go after China . . . we are not in the economic position to do so . . . If we go after the individual companies that imported the products then we cut off our nose despite our face . . . I think we should just move on.

19 million toys were taken off the shelf.
400,000 had at least some traces of lead
So 3% of the toys taken off the shelf actually MIGHT have had problems with them.

Magnets were swallowed, lead killed a kid – and there’s no lead in magnets.

How about sending parents to “treatment” so they can learn how to be better parents by watching their kids so they don’t eat a half-dozen magnets?

Or be smart enough not to buy CRAP that isn’t safe for their kids… !

    Stop buying Chinese sh*t.

Gee, I thought that we had recalls in place on these items. If we stop buying things made in China, Wal-Mart will go bankrupt.

I certainly hope that the companies affected by these recalls will deal with China directly and threaten to stop buying their products if they don’t start policing their production more.

It all comes down to personal responsibility, both corporate and private. At what point do we stop blaming others and take responsibility for out actions.

Coproations should monitor their subcontractors and the products they sell and parents have to be responsible for what there kids shove into their mouth be it lead laden toys or big macs.

These are just musings, but, the sudden fuss being made by the US about standards sound a little artificial, there may be a politically motivated agenda here. China dose after all own the mortgage on your united states, perhaps they seem to need smacking down to some of you.

I say we donate all the toys to Chinas poor children and BUY AMERICAN!!! F**k Chinese toys!

On a side note, I went through my house and checked the labels or markings of various things and found that 100% of my childrens toys that I checked were all made in China whereas most of my clothing was made in America or Mexico!!! WTF?!

  11. suthrnlyts says:

We need to demand accountability from the corporations who have their names on these toys and any other products that come from China. If China is that inept, they need to begin testing their own products before they hit the shelves.

It’s easy to say “Buy American”, but many things are no longer produced here.

I think that Mattel needs to take steps to put in place a better system of overseeing their co-contractors. There needs to be a better quality assurance program in place and possibly better and stricter guidelines handed down to the manufacturer. With free trade agreements in place we can not demand that they start producing their products in the US. We can boycott but how long would that last?

We need to be alert parents as well. Although we don’t always know what the products are made of we are aware of what they are (magnets) and need to be smart about the fact that any small part could break or fall off a toy so they are not appropriate for certain ages.

I read the posts on here and find most blame the retailer. The Corp’s have all got in bed with China. It is spelled cheap labor, Govt subsidized shipping and addt’l profit. You as a consumer are not in the loop.
The Govt has allowed the exit of our jobs, and the general public has allowed it it happen. Look at the crowds who line up at the big box stores and stand in line to pay for the substandard products that they sell. Put an American toy that is built with quality and twice the price, next to the cheap imitation from China and see which pile goes away. We have let them do it!!!USMC 60-68

As terrible as it is but maybe it is a good time to bring some of that toy business back to American. Lord knows we can use the jobs.
