Is it possible to etch a design using the tip of a nail or screw?
Question by Dear Waffles: Is it possible to etch a design using the tip of a nail or screw?
Is it possible to etch a celtic knot design into a quarter that I smushed on the train tracks using the tip of a nail or screw? I know it’s stupid sounding but it’s cheap and I’m broke.

you could try, you’d end up with a pretty sore finger though.
they sell intaglio tools at art supply store for fairly cheap.
they’re very sharp tools made especially for engraving on hard surfaces.

America Still Appreciates A Good Dumb Blond Joke
While America might have had its chauvinistic nuts cut off by politically correct extremist who can’t take a joke when they see one, other countries are still, happily, appreciating a good ‘ol dumb blond joke courtesy of Mercedes Benz who think there’s nothing wrong with ordering a fast food meal from a librarian. Though America might have undergone an unfortunate castration, humor is alive and well under the radar and vigorously appreciated as illustrated by this ad having been sent to us by the very blond and very smart wife of Adrants reader Roy Coffman.

intelligent design, or just stupid muddle?
Question by synopsis: intelligent design, or just stupid muddle?
if you discount the reliability of carbon dating (as you must do for creationist positions to make any sense at all) then the only real objection to the turin shroud disappears.
if creation science prove anything at all, it proves that the turin shroud is genuine, and that the roman catholic church is the one true church.
http://www.shroud.com/homespan.htm
so why aren’t all creation scientists roman catholics? (apart from the fact that the catholic church won’t admit them that is).
it wouldn’t be because they are too confused / insincere / dishonest to work out the full implication of their own position – would it?
i see we have some very confused historians here.
the main evidence for the authenticity of the shroud would be that it shows a body crucified by being nailed through the wrists. the medieval tradition always showed the nails piercing the palms, it was not discovered until the middle of the last century that this cannot work.
crucifixion by piercing through the wrists was unknown to the middle ages. if the cloth is not genuine, did the artist have divine inspiration?

Video View of The Pay Toilet Without a Hole
Today I decided to shoot a video of a 10p pay toilet. You can’t see the outside very well as there isn’t enough lighting but I’ll get a photo of the outside instruction board in the day. As you put the 10p in the slot the door opens and the usage indicator shows as “Engaged” once you step inside the weight detector on the floor will detect the weight and the door will close. From the inside there is no lock as it shows on the outside it is in use, and it won’t let anyone in from the outside. You can leave at anytime by holding the handle and it slides open again, but once it is opened you have to leave. If you stay in there you have the risk of getting wet during the cleaning cycle but the door can be opened if you force it. The sign on the door tells you how long you have in there (15 minutes) , how to get out and not to forget to take anything when you leave. The second sign on the wall tells you that after each use the walls and seat of the heated cubical are automatically cleaned and disenfected. Next along would be the toilet paper dispenser … nothing much to say about that except there seemsto be limited paper supply, and it’s difficult to pull out. The ‘No Smoking’ sign is found in all toilets, as it is now illegal to smoke inside a public place or where someone works. Now, the toilet bowl is a funny thing. There is no hole, and the thing to sit on is odd. It’s all disenfected and scrubbed though. It flushes by tipping back into the main control thing. The …

Q&A: Can a person w/ a degree in Graphic Design get a job in Illustration and visa versa?
Question by forlornhope638: Can a person w/ a degree in Graphic Design get a job in Illustration and visa versa?
I know, I know, this is a stupid question. I’m just torn between whether I should get a degree in Graphic Design or Illustration as I’m equally passionate in both. Right now I’m majoring in graphic design and lovin’ it but what if I graduate and want to to do illustrating for a bit? Would I be screwed?

If you have a good portfolio you will not be screwed. If you are comfortable doing academic drawing I do recommend as many courses in it as you can, but cartoonists like Chip Wass and J. D. King do a lot of high-paying jobs which rely far more on design skills than they do academic drawing. I would definitely say try to show your drawings to your teachers and see what they think you do best. It is also time to work on your portfolio right now — go to Staples and get a good presentation portfolio to mount your samples in — and try to include both your best drawing and your best assignments (I am saying that even if you are in your first year — the time to start work on your portfolio was really fourteen but it’s not too late). Only take academic drawing if you want to. It is really important that the drawings you select for your portfolio are the drawings you want to do — with themes and images you are comfortable with, unless you have actually sold a drawing you are not as comfortable with as happens. Chances are, in either field, you will have to work 2 or more jobs to pay the bills at some point. You may as well try to arrange to get jobs you think are fun doing.

Question by Nero T. Pickle: How exactly is challenging Intelligent Design by pointing out a flaw in human biology deserving of a violation?
I recently received a violation for asking why the human body cannot produce its own vitamin C if Intelligent Design is true.

Lots of people can draw very nicely. They don’t even need to go to college to get better and find (low paying) work.
I think maybe you should look at doing something that not everyone can do, as you are more likely to be able to get a job paying decent money doing that.
I think your dad may be right on this one.
