i don’t understand
I don’t understand pdf’s…am I gay?? Wait…I was gay before pdf’s even existed, so what is this crap I hopelessely was twirled into watching???
I’m the dweeb who’s been able to make my files work with Adobe’s flattener…but the PDF print engine eliminates that. I haven’t had to tweak anything that’s run through that RIP.
Adobe is a big company. Unfortunately “make it work” means that poor prepress dweeb had had to stay late at work (okay maybe they were making O.T.$, but still…) to fix what broke because of transparency effects. That time is gone forever. But Adobe does get all the upgrade fees.
Like now with CS 3.3. Available for purchase right before CS 4 is coming out. I’m old fashioned, and think that if you’re going to charge your customer for all these razzle-dazzle uprades, they damn well better work!
Well, not quite right. You’ve been able to print transparency via the process of flattening it into PostScript. This worked (usually), but it’s far less then optimal. What they’re talking about here is a newer process that eliminates the conversion to PostScript entirely, and leverages more fully the capabilities of hi-res PDF workflows. It’s a pretty major improvement, but it’s not like you couldn’t make it work without it.
*sniff* My printer has refused to help stupid PDF Syndrom. When the the carnage stop!
This would be cute except Adobe has been shipping design tools for many, many years that have had the transparency effect enabled; and only recently has this ‘improved’ print engine been available. Why blame the users for software that needed a new RIP to be invented to properly process?
very nice!
Where do I send my dollar?
