Well, it’s been a whirlwind few weeks since the last Holy Hallucinations and a lot of water and about 5000 new subscribers have passed under the bridge. My heartfelt thanks again to everyone who gave me a shout-out recently, particularly JaguarJ0nes, Desertphile, chattiestspike2, PZ Meyers/Pharyngula, The AtheistExperience and dprjones. During all the furor, the user FranksVoice paid a couple of little visits to my channel to leave a comment. In the first he opined that this channel needs some serious prayer but, funnily enough, didn’t offer to provide any himself. Following this particularly good example of Christian compassion he returned and destroyed the whole of modern physical and biological science by decisively disproving with the quote “Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Game over!” Needless to say, having been confronted with an intellect of this magnitude, I felt compelled to surf over to his channel to see what I could see and found a mirror of the video I’m addressing here. The original, by user onceforgivennowfree can be found here: www.youtube.com Although the original is now 6 months old, and the argument tired and stale, I was so astounded by the disingenuousness with which it was presented that I really had to respond. Although I keep the other possibilities open in the video, having watched a few other offerings from this user I’m coming to the conclusion that he’s actually an intelligent individual who’s either refusing to …

Do you know where I can find a Grappa with a hand blown glass airplane inside the bottle?
Question by Gina Q: Do you know where I can find a Grappa with a hand blown glass airplane inside the bottle?
I have seen one in the window of a Manhattan liquor store, but I cannot recall where. Has anyone seen it? A grappa bottle with glass grapes inside may help, because I just need the stopper (which my husband has broken!!!)
I know you can get them from AA duty free, but you have to be flying.

Q&A: Given the recalls and safety concerns recently, would you buy a 2011 or 2012 Toyota?
Question by THE GUARDIAN OF FOREVER: Given the recalls and safety concerns recently, would you buy a 2011 or 2012 Toyota?
I probably would buy one.
Why? Because I think they will galvanize their efforts to make the best and safest products they can.
I think Toyota will look to recover with improved products, superior warranties, and perhaps some price incentives. What else can they do at this point? I’d say they kind of have to do these things. And hopefully the result will be great cars.
Would you buy a new Toyota?

Austin describes himself as a writer who draws. After seeing Austin’s found poetry collection Newspaper Blackout, Broome Community College invited him to deliver their commencement address. Austin shared the ten things he wished someone had told him when he was graduating, most notably, “Steal like an artist.” Once Austin posted the talk on his website, it instantly went viral. To date, the original post has been read by 1.5 million people. He has shared his ideas with audiences at TEDx, SXSW, and The Economist’s Ideas Economy conference. Austin’s insightful guidance and distinctive presentation has struck a chord with those trying to create original work in a time when nothing seems new. Indeed, we learn from Austin that nothing is original. All creative work must build on what came before and combine old concepts in exciting new ways. Now, Austin Kleon has delved deeper into his ideas and expanded his game-changing speech into a manifesto: STEAL LIKE AN ARTIST: 10 Things Nobody Ever Told You About Being Creative (Workman Publishing, April). The book tells us all how to study our heroes and begin to see the world as they do. You’ll learn how to copy, steal, and be inspired by the world around you — without plagiarizing it. True to his tenets, Austin makes practical advice seem fresh with striking illustrations and genuine passion. His book will help experienced professionals and new graduates alike find new ways of working. His wisdom has clear applications to creative …

prove that the products ab and ba are conjugate elements in a group?
Question by Jenny H: prove that the products ab and ba are conjugate elements in a group?
prove that the products ab and ba are conjugate elements in a group. Please show steps!

Answer by Copestone
The answer is almost tirivial. It is just a two line proof but since you ask for details, I would write down everything for you, including definitions.
Let a, b ? G, a group. Let e be the identity element.
Recall from definition that the products ab and ba are conjugates if there is an element x ? G such that
x(ab) = (ba)x
So, simply take x = a^{-1}
Then x(ab) = (a^{-1})(ab) = (a^{-1})(a) = eb = b
while (ba)x = (ba)(a^{-1}) = b((a)(a^{-1}) = be = b.
It follows that x(ab) = (ba)x.
Equivalently, some textbook also writes x(ab)x^{-1} = ba.
