Do you think we can expect some great deals on Toyota vehicles after the recall issues are resolved?
Question by Mr. Atoz: Do you think we can expect some great deals on Toyota vehicles after the recall issues are resolved?
One would think that the company would try and offer some major incentives to to boost interest in their products. I doubt many people are looking for a new Toyota now, but over the next year or so will there be some great deals on new models?

Answer by Rapid Fire
Actually; a lot of people are looking for a new Toyota. Not everyone jumped on the Panic Button when a few throttles got stuck.
And, yes, Toyota is currently working on some incentive plans to get consumers back to the brand. Same as every other Major Manufacturer has done after a massive recall.
I would not hesitate to buy a new Toyota if I was in the market for a new car. A faulty gas pedal would be a welcome relief from the problems I’ve had with the electronic steering system in my 2006 Malibu. GM will not admit there’s a problem with it in spite of the fact that every component except the steering wheel has been replaced. At least Toyota admitted fault and is doing something about it.

What are some responsibilities of an engineer?
Question by Gianna: What are some responsibilities of an engineer?
I’m doing a project called “Geometry in the Workplace” for my geometry class and one of the careers I chose was an engineer. I need to find out how geometry is used in this job and how often it is used. I assume it is used a lot but I don’t know how. I also need to know the responsibilities of this job and what someone who has this job is like and what characteristics they might have. The last thing I need to know is the possibilities of promotion or advancement in this career. Thank you for your help!

Civil Engineerings who specialize in structural Engineering deal with geometry on a day to day basis.
Take a look at this link http://www.yourotherteacher.com/wbDemo/xmamgiq8a7-28948/trusses-frames-machines.html
This is called “statics” which is used to determine if a structure will be static or not. Say if you design a bridge and the “loads” applied will be the cars going across. You want that bridge to be “static” (not moving) or else bad things will happen (it will fail). Here is another link (just skim over it) http://www.civilcraftstructures.com/civil-subjects/3-methods-for-truss-analysis/
Another type of Engineering that uses geometry is Mechanical
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_engineering
The responsibilities of an Engineer are tremendous. My teachers always told me a doctor can kill one person with the slip of a scalpel but with a slip of a pencil (messing up calculations when designing say a bridge) could possibly kill lots of people. In Canada once you graduate Engineering you are called a Junior Engineer for 5 years until you can actually become a professional Engineer. Once you become a Professional Engineer you will have a stamp that you approve drawings with. If you don’t look over drawings well and find mistakes and put your stamp on it and something goes wrong with the project its your butt on the line.
Characteristics of an Engineer would be highly skilled in problem solving, mathematics and other courses related to Engineering. They need to have good writing skills to write up specification manuals, reports, analysis’. You also need to be a good speaker to make clear what you are trying to say (most Engineering failures are due to lack of communication).
Promotion – Once you finish being a junior engineering and you write a test to become a professional engineer, then you can get your masters in engineering and the get your PhD in engineering. You can also advance by studying other disciplines of engineering, my father is a civil engineer but he does structural, mechanical, geotechnical. Also if you have an engineering degree is does not mean you need to practice engineering. Some high up managers in companies have an engineering degree.
Feel free to inbox me if you have any more questions.
Your welcome

A good setting/location for a scene that would involve some sort of action?
Question by trs_shortie9: A good setting/location for a scene that would involve some sort of action?
For a drama class, we have to come up with a setting and then a set design for a scene. This scene will be a 10 minute improvisation of 2 characters talking. Wanted to have it set in a coffee shop but was told that something like that wouldn’t work because he doesn’t want to see the characters simply sitting for 10 minutes. Any ideas? I would really appreciate them.

God, how I hate stupid drama class assignments. A 10 minute improv? that’s longer than they do on Who’s Line Is It?
Do a robbery of the coffee shop, that’ll be full of “action” Sounds like another pin headed teacher who does not explain the assigments thoroughly enough, unless, of course, you did not pay attention.

There are many professional societies specifically for engineers and anyone working in specific areas or industries. IEEE, International Electrical and Electronic Engineering, is the largest engineering society in the world and covers a very diverse range of technologies, from power generation and transmission to semicondutors to automotive electronics and everything in between. ASM Intl (fka American Society for Metals) is for professionals in metals and materials industries, primarily metals but also polymers and covers extractive metallurgy thru to failure analysis, tons of technical information on alloy chemistry, mechanical/physical properties/corrosion, applications from aerospace to medical devices. and many others… SME, Society for Manufacturing Engineers. ASQ, American Society for Quality. AWS, American Welding Society.

Need some assistance on schooling for Graphic Design?
Question by K.W.: Need some assistance on schooling for Graphic Design?
I have been home-schooled through American School for the past 4 years, and have just recently graduated in April. After seeing alot of people go off to college, it gave me quite a bit of incentive to get some form of a career path moving along.
So at the current moment I work at Best Buy and they have a tuition assistance program I will be looking into. I have not taken any standardized testing due to the fact I was home-schooled, so I will be taking that somewhere if it is needed. I live about an hour outside of Chicago and was for a time looking at either “The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago or Schaumburg,” or “Westwood College.” I recently started looking at “The School at the Art Institute of Chicago.” So far after doing a bit of digging around I am leaning towards the latter, I obviously wanna get my money’s worth out of it.
I am basically going to ask some really basic questions just so I get an idea from some real people, and not just a web site.
I would like to know and posotive or negatives about any of these schools.?
What the main difference between Visual Communications & Graphic Design is?(Stupid one, I know)
Any good places to start looking for grants?
What the difficulty level is of getting into any of these?
What is the helpfulness of the teachers in these schools?
I am not just some kid fresh out of school that thinks I can design, I have the creative desire, but not the knowledge to create it. I don’t have a HUGE amount of work to put together for a portfolio. I have a bunch of forum signatures I have made, some logos, as well as some work I have done for my Dad, as he is a photographer, so I have some high school senior model work, as well as 1 corporate design, that made in into a European DanFoss magazine as a full page print.
I plan on going to the local college and speaking to a counselor, as well as my sister-in-law’s brother got a degree in graphic design in Ohio, because he needed a scientific degree to go to law school.
I plan on driving it everyday, so the plan if possible is to go to class Mon-Thurs, 9-5ish. I don’t exactly know where I would like to work, a big wish is “The Ant Farm” in L.A. I know the owners son or nephew, so we’ll see what happens there. If I need a letter of reference the best place for me to get that would be my tutor probably, so I would like to know if that would be acceptable to the school.
Thanks for all your help!

First off, a graphic design degree is usually a bachelor of fine arts, not a bachelor of science. Schools like Westwood offer programs called graphic design that are really computer design for people who have no real art skills. Graphic design is a field which has been to some extent mislabeled in recent years, and due to the influx of colleges like Westwood that advertise on TV and make it seem like graphic design is a great and lucrative career, there can be more designers than there are jobs. It really does depend on what type of design you want to do, but if you don’t have an art background at all you can get into school, but won’t do as well.
I don’t know much about The Ant Farm, but design in general can be pretty competitive, especially in certain venues and locations. And pretty much any potential employer will be more interested in a portfolio and schooling than a reference letter and who you may know. Also, if you plan to go to downtown Chicago from suburbia, give serious consideration to the Metra train to get there and back. It is way faster and cheaper, and if you’ve ever had to park downtown you know what I mean.
