Question by Gahan: What is the major product when concentrated HBr reacts with prop-2-en-1-ol?

My answer is OH group is substituted by Br and also addition of HBr according to Marckownikoff Rule will give me 1,2-dibromopropane.

But the correct answer is : 3-bromoprop-1-ene which means the region of double bond will remain unsaturated and only -OH substitution by -Br will occur.

This is what I am not getting. Help with explanation really needed.

I would suspect the question given was only aimed to test you on nucleophilic substitution, and completely neglected the possibility of electrophilic addition. I believe this is a design flaw while the question was prepared.

However, if you insist the answer is correct, it may be explained by the negative inductive effect of the halogen atom (bromine) decreasing the electron density at the double bond, rendering it less susceptible to electrophilic attack. However, I am uncertain if the decrease in the electron density due to negative inductive effect alone is sufficient to inhibit electrophilic attack by electrophiles. I severely doubt that the extent of negative inductive effect of bromine atoms alone is sufficient to inhibit electrophilic attack by electrophiles. Even if that is true, given the hydrobromic acid used is concentrated, it should be enough to raise the rate of electrophilic addition.

Your answer is most likely correct.

I love the artistic side and the architectural side of interior design. When I walk into a room in any building I see how it can be better and Ive taken a summer workshop at the Art Institute. However, I love to learn about cultures and my dream would be able to travel. I feel like I have a knack for business. I cant do a double major in these, so I must choose one. Thank You!

Companies don’t hire “International Businessmen” straight from school. It’s a bogus degree.

Double Major: Fashion Design and something else?

double major in fashion design and a more serious career?
I am still undecided on what to major in but for sure I want to do fashion but I do understand it’s a very competitive major and career that can lead to being poor
should i double major in a more serious career that I am also interested in?

please don’t tell me ‘Oh Fashion Design is dumb. Fashion Design is stupid. You’re gonna end up poor, do something else’ or some crap

should my double majors be connected or does it matter if they’re not?
I am considering double majoring Fashion Design with either Business or Law(well I do understand there’s law school later on so maybe pre-law or political science) or Psych/Sociology

P.S. I can make clothes and have designed already and I love everything about it. I would like to do this for the rest of my life. My mother had done this too though, sadly, her clothing did not make it up top and we ended up losing a lot of money. She has taught me everything she knows and this is how I know the consequences of failing but I really want to do it still because I just love fashion.

A frequent combination is with a business major. It gives the student background to work in the business side of fashion and in general business as well.

*** Valco Ion Stroller (MAJOR DESIGN FLAW !!!)

We took our baby out for a walk with the Valco Ion baby stroller, and on the 5th time, when suddenly, the stroller collapsed!!! Luckily I was able to hold the stroller when it happened so it did not totally tip over with our baby in it. My wife quickly took our 3 month out of the stroller while I was holding the stroller from tipping over. Yesterday, my dad told me I was such a smart woman and that I am wasting so much of my brain power by studying graphic design in college. He claimed that it takes no skill to do what i do and that i could be using my smarts to do something so much more useful and worthwhile and that i wont make more than like 40,000 a year in that field. I really enjoy everything artistic and thought i knew what i wanted to do in college. But my dad kind of hurt my feelings by saying that and im suddenly questioning my talents. Does anyone agree/dissagree with him?

As a graphic design student , I spent hours working and it is not easy.

Graphic designing is a highly demanding field.

every company in the world needs a graphic designer.

look how starbucks, ebay, fortune 500 companies sites and logos.

how do you think they made those?
