Question by Elizabeth: is graphic design a stupid thing to major in?

Yesterday, my dad told me I was such a smart woman and that I am wasting so much of my brain power by studying graphic design in college. He claimed that it takes no skill to do what i do and that i could be using my smarts to do something so much more useful and worthwhile and that i wont make more than like 40,000 a year in that field. I really enjoy everything artistic and thought i knew what i wanted to do in college. But my dad kind of hurt my feelings by saying that and im suddenly questioning my talents. Does anyone agree/dissagree with him?

Graphic designing is a highly demanding field.

every company in the world needs a graphic designer.

look how starbucks, ebay, fortune 500 companies sites and logos.

how do you think they made those?

um hello! graphic desingers you arent limited only to 40k a year.

    If you’re smart & have the ability to major in something bigger, like something related to math, sciences, etc. i guess you should. You have a brighter future than Graphic Design 🙂
