Do you know how much lead is in your household?

Question by Amy L: Do you know how much lead is in your household?

Despite phasing out lead in gas in 1973, removing it from residential house paint in 1978, and outlawing lead-laden paint in chldren’s toys, we’re still threatened by lead in many consumer products.

Dishware, jewelry, glue stick caps, vinyl backpacks, children’s ceramic tea sets — there are many items with lead content not on any federal recall list your family may be exposed to. The recent toy recalls have pushed the issue back into view, but is the general public paying attention?

Do you know the symptoms? Have you contacted the federal government to press for federally administered, 3rd party safety testing and inspection? Have you ever had your kids tested to see what their levels are?

The December issue of Consumer Reports is a good place to start if you’d like to learn more about this silent threat to our families.
“Rationality Personified,” I pray to God you don’t have any children in your household. I do when my young grandson is visiting, and the question — and my concern — stems from contact in the average household, not power plants.

How much money did China lose from their lead based toys recall in 2007?

Question by foxresume: How much money did China lose from their lead based toys recall in 2007?

IN 2007, several companies had to recall millions of products made in China because of lead paint being used in their manufacturing process. I’d like to know what amount of money, if any, did China lose because of this? Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by Mr. Ron
The actual amount lost is just about impossible to project as China employs a different method of accounting than we do.

Under their communist form of government state owned companies do not have to make their financial records public.

The amount lost is probably not as much as you would think as some of the losses (actually much of it) was absorbed from the U. S. companies that do business with them.

As far as lost sales go, most American’s are still buying toys and other items stamped “Made in China” so I don’t think most people really care much about it one way or the other. Walk through a toy store today and look for “Made in America” or “Made in USA” and you won’t find too much.

Concerning the Chinese products recall, could this be a plot to destroy the minds of children with lead?

Question by sbg0803: Concerning the Chinese products recall, could this be a plot to destroy the minds of children with lead?

The majority of these toy products are aimed toward infants to 3rd grade. Lead is a dangerous substance in cognitive development. Most young children have many of these toys and are therefore exposed. We all know that many of these toys wind up in their mouths.

It would be so easy to quietly slip any dangerous substance into these products and claim innocence when caught.

This could have possibly destroyed many children’s lives. This generation of children should grow up and become leaders. If their minds are not functioning to full capacity, how will they make good decisions?

Just a thought.

The Chinese Government and their industrial base has VERY LITTLE, to no quality control, do not know, nor care about any health concerns !!!!! ( I speak with some first hand knowledge, read my profile).
The fact that there are so many Chinese products, entering the USA, with out the usual health safety regards, is thanks to Wm. J. Clinton, and his trip to China, while he was President !!!!!!
Now that the import issue has set a precedent for establishing a “standard”, the only way I see for the stoppage of this activity, is for ALL AMERICANS TO REFUSE TO BUY CHINESE PRODUCTS !!!!!!
IF the American RETAILERS HAVE THE CHEAP Chinese PRODUCT/S ON THE SHELVES, FOR AN EXTENDED TIME, THE RETAILERS WILL CEASE TO ORDER, AND STOCK, THEIR PRODUCT/S !!!
Will the American buyer stop buying this, NO, NOT UNTIL THE MESSAGES HIT HOME i.e. THEIR OWN FAMILIES !!!!!!
