In the aftermath of the Mattel recall, are you changing your buying habits?

Question by jbrandtc: In the aftermath of the Mattel recall, are you changing your buying habits?

We checked out our kids’ toy box and didn’t find one of the recalled products. We were stunned to learn that 80% of the toys sold in the U.S. are manufactured in China, though.

We’re going to pay much closer attention to recall information for toys and cut back completely on food and health care products made in China.

No when i was a kid, children could play with anyhting and not get hurt. It seems that as time goes on kids are just getting hurt for the stupidest things. I think all this “ethical” and “saftey” crap is starting to make this country look like a joke. American politics has really become the laughing stock of the world.

I agree that these Chinese products are a little scary these days. What is up with that? I am more vigilent now and try to avoid Chinese made products. America needs to stop outsourcing and depending on other countries for our goods.

We were lucky to find that we did not have any of the toys either. I think this is going to be a wake up call for manufacturers. They need to be more hands on with their products. Maybe we should bring all the factories home…start making everything in America again. If that meant higher cost, I would pay more for my children’s and my things if it meant they were safer products.

I didn’t have any of those products either but you bet I am goint to be checking everything. My son is only 7 months so I didn’t have any of those magnet toys. I was most worried about the lead paint thing because you know babies put everything in their mouths!

I agree that if these factories were at home, this wouldn’t be an issue. Our country needs to do whatever possible bring these factories, and those JOBS back home to the Americans.

I looked through my children’s toyboxes and saw no toys that were being recalled. Lucky me, right?

Am I changing my habits? No. I’ve always been paranoid and suspicious. Turns out I was just ahead of my time. Haha.

We do have a Polly Pocket tree house that’s going back to Matel, though. They have magnets that come loose. No biggie for my 8 year old, but I have baby nieces and nephews so the toy has to go.
