Why do people laugh at creationists? (part 30)
Following Casey Luskins flapping on the video Challenging the Discovery Institute to Discover, Luskin has earned himself the honor of being the subject of Why do people laugh at creationists Part 30. The Discovery Institute has all but abandoned intelligent design (the rebranding of creationism- see video) as a lost cause, they even go on record saying they dont think it should be taught in schools! They initially set up a peer review journal of their own (Progress in Complexity, Information, and Design) but abandoned it after they got called out on the lineage of intelligent design to creationism. Luskin helped set up intelligent design and evolution awareness clubs, but stated that the management believed the designer was the God of the Bible, and then happily goes on camera and states that intelligent design has nothing to do with religion, despite all the diagrams he has connecting the two on the IDEA webpage. What really astounds me about these guys is they have utterly lost, and yet they dont have the dignity to accept that they were wrong graciously. Instead all you get is a bunch of bitter misfits doing their best to sow disinformation and throw as much mud as possible but for what gain? All I see is a bunch of jerks committing spiteful intellectual vandalism for their personal gratification. Really what do these people hope to gain by pretending there is controversy where none exists?

What are you doing about Mattel Fisher-Price recall?
Question by Tonks: What are you doing about Mattel Fisher-Price recall?
My daughter received one of the Mattel products that are on the recall list for her birthday recently. The recall notice says the date code should be between 109-7LF thru 187-7LF.
The toy set she received has a date code of 017-7LF, which means it’s not up for recall. However, I still took the toy away from her because I am a bit uneasy about the possibility of lead in the product. I’ve already been affected by the Thomas train recall and am growing very concerned. Any opinions? Should I allow her to play with the supposed “non-affected” recalled product?
I believe I mentioned that someone “gave” my daughter the recalled product. I don’t make a habit of buying “Made in China.”

Q&A: If Humans Are Created Through Intelligent Design?
Question by I AM Troll: If Humans Are Created Through Intelligent Design?
Why are there so many stupid people?
I guess the same could be asked about natural selection.

Answer by Sophia M
In defense of natural selection,
there are intelligent people who choose not to learn or who choose not to go to school and hone their talents. If you don’t use your brain, you’ll lose it, simple as that.
My best friend in high school dropped out because she thought she could get into college at 16. She refused to study because she thought that everything would be easy, and of course she didn’t get into the college she wanted. She’s at a Junior College now, I believe, but I haven’t kept in contact with her.

Resilience and Opportunity: Lessons from the US Gulf Coast after Katrina and Rita
Since Katrina and the levee failures devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast in 2005, the world has witnessed catastrophic earthquakes in Haiti, China and New Zealand, floods in Pakistan, and the tsunami that struck Japan. Closer to home, tornados destroyed much of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Joplin, Missouri. These large–scale disasters place new urgency on understanding the lessons learned post–Katrina. Dr. Allison Plyer, editor of “Resilience and Opportunity,” and several contributing scholars introduce this new book from Brookings Institution Press.

Knowledge of Science to Design Balloon-Powered Car?
Question by Grimm Chibi: Knowledge of Science to Design Balloon-Powered Car?
In science, we made balloon-powered cars. Question 6 asks, “Did you use your knowledge of science to guide your design? If so, in what way?”
I don’t really understand the question. We know that the heavier the car is, the slower it will move, but what principle of science is that? Also, we know that the faster the air can escape from the balloon, the faster the car will move. What do I write for our knowledge of science, though?
Sorry to bother you with such a stupid question. Thanks for the help.

Answer by Luke R
Newton’s second law is summarised by F=ma. The force on an object is equal to the mass times the acceleration. For the same force by the baloon, bigger mass will mean smaller acceleration and vice versa.
With the baloon pushing the air back, the conservation of momentum comes into play. The momentum in a closed system (the car) is constant so the momentum of the air moving back is equal to the momentum of the car moving forwards. Momentum M=mv where m is the mass and v is the velocity. The faster the mass of air is released the bigger the momentum and therefore the greater the velocity of the car.
Because the air is being let out over a period of time, not all at once the momentum transferred is not as simple as above. Newton’s second law comes into play as the car will have positive accereration so long as there is air being let out.
Always remember that friction will be slowing the car down.

a few web design questions?
Question by Leave Stingette Alone: a few web design questions?
i am in this stupid web design class and am working on my final project. it is supposed to be strictly an information site and the instructor approved that. now he wants me to do more with it. so here are my questions:
do i need to put the DOCTYPE and META tags on every page, or if i do it to one, will it appear on all of my pages? in the text editor at least
can anyone give me pointers on using CSS? i am not all that familiar with it. though i tried desperately to understand it
Best answer:
Answer by Harry
Just put it on your index page.
With CSS it is hard to understand but if you already know HTML it is easier. CSS is basically a way to design websites as it is easier to do and it has more options on designs.
It is hard to put CSS into a couple of sentences so just go online and watch videos, they help a lot.
Thanks
