Toy recall for September 4 2007?
Question by Hilda C: Toy recall for September 4 2007?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in co-operation with Mattel Inc., announced late Tuesday that it is recalling about 675,000 Chinese-made toys that have excessive amounts of lead paint.
The voluntary recall covers units of various Barbie accessory toys that were manufactured between Sept. 30, 2006, and Aug. 20, 2007.
“Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed,” said the agency’s website.
As well, 8,900 different toys involving Big Big World 6-in-I Bongo Band toys from the company’s Fisher-Price brand were recalled. Those products were sold nationwide from July 2007 through August 2007.

Well Jimmy Crack Corn! Come on now, they don’t check these toys before they distribute? We should stop importing with them (China).
Thanks for the info.

So many recalls as of late. What can a consumer do? Being a capitalist, I believe in the power of the pocket book, but curious to know what others are doing to protect themselves from dangerous consumer products.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is advising owners of the strollers to stop using them and to contact Maclaren to receive a free repair kit—a zippered fabric cover that prevents a child from inserting his or her finger into the hinges. Maclaren can be contacted at 877-688-2326 or by visiting the firm’s Web site at www.maclaren.us/recall.

Can you give examples of events or stories with an ironic twist?
Question by the_chief: Can you give examples of events or stories with an ironic twist?
examples:
In 1974 the Consumer Product Safety Commission had to recall 80,000 of its own lapel buttons promoting “toy safety”, because the buttons had sharp edges, used lead paint, and had small clips that could be broken off and subsequently swallowed.
When John Hinckley attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan, all of his shots initially missed the President; however a bullet ricocheted off the bullet-proof windows of the Presidential limousine and struck Reagan in the chest. Thus, the windows made to protect the President from gunfire were partially responsible for his being shot.

Are US companies going to begin “moving” back to US to avoid the recalls?
Question by Secret Squirrel: Are US companies going to begin “moving” back to US to avoid the recalls?
Companies that were ‘household names’ for decades are issuing recalls for their products that were once produced in US.When they abandoned this country for tax incentives and cheap (child) labor they saw the “savings” and crowed about how they made their investors more money.
China has exported faulty products made by ‘American’ companies that are poisonous, defective, and downright dangerous to folks…what do you propose the consumer do?
Can Americans stop buying foreign or do the Chinks hold the upper hand here?
Best answer:
Answer by Ken
The only thing that will make companies come back to America is if people stand up and say we are only buying american made products (or we are NOT buying Chinese products). The recalls that we hear about are few, what about all the ones that we do not hear about? What do you think is getting in our food that is coming from foreign countries?

Question by ngj03: Simplicity convertible sleeper recall, product recalls in general, any time limit to return?
For a product recall, is there ever a time limit. I bought this about 3 years ago and was saving it for my next child. Can I still bring it in since it is now on recall? I don’t have the box or receipt at this point. Thanks so much.
Its a bassinet, and there is a recall going on:

I don’t think the crib recall is issuing refunds. Instead they’re sending out a free repair kit. More info: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07307.html
