Question by Gahan: What is the major product when concentrated HBr reacts with prop-2-en-1-ol?

My answer is OH group is substituted by Br and also addition of HBr according to Marckownikoff Rule will give me 1,2-dibromopropane.

But the correct answer is : 3-bromoprop-1-ene which means the region of double bond will remain unsaturated and only -OH substitution by -Br will occur.

This is what I am not getting. Help with explanation really needed.

I would suspect the question given was only aimed to test you on nucleophilic substitution, and completely neglected the possibility of electrophilic addition. I believe this is a design flaw while the question was prepared.

However, if you insist the answer is correct, it may be explained by the negative inductive effect of the halogen atom (bromine) decreasing the electron density at the double bond, rendering it less susceptible to electrophilic attack. However, I am uncertain if the decrease in the electron density due to negative inductive effect alone is sufficient to inhibit electrophilic attack by electrophiles. I severely doubt that the extent of negative inductive effect of bromine atoms alone is sufficient to inhibit electrophilic attack by electrophiles. Even if that is true, given the hydrobromic acid used is concentrated, it should be enough to raise the rate of electrophilic addition.

Your answer is most likely correct.

Q&A: Anyone Have Any Exercises to lower Mistakes?

Question by wayne_r_r: Anyone Have Any Exercises to lower Mistakes?

When I build, repair, or design things, I make big mistakes. My Math accuracy is horrible. Does anyone have any exercises to help make fewer mistakes.

It is ‘not’ just a Math problem, but it only seemed to fit here.

Thank You,

Wayne

Q&A: Please review this computer build (gaming rig) and tell me any flaws in design/components.?

Question by Daemon: Please review this computer build (gaming rig) and tell me any flaws in design/components.?

I will be building my first gaming rig and need to know that these components will work seamlessly with each other. I would hate to get these parts only to realize that I’ve got incompatible MoBo/graphics.
PARTSLIST:

CD drive:LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model GH22NP20

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive

Graphics Card: Recertified: XFX HD465XZDF Radeon HD 4650 1GB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Ram: GeIL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model GV34GB1066C7DC – Retail

PSU: Antec TruePower New TP-750 750W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE … – Retail

Mother Board: BIOSTAR TA760G M2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Processor: AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition Kuma 2.8GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Dual-Core Processor Model AD785ZWCGHBOX

ALL PARTS are going to come from NEWEGG.com, fyi.

So if there are any issues with this build please give me your advice, I’m open to suggestions.
PS: I understand that this rig isn’t the best quality; however, i am working on a budget. These are the parts I would like to use, so unless they aren’t compatible, or I need more than 320GB of HD 😉 then I wouldn’t want to change the SPECS. And yes VISTA 64bit.

Not bad of a rig, but i would recommend you get more than 320 GB of hard drive space, it will get eaten up pretty quickly, trust me.

At least get a 500GB hard drive

Question by GhostLurker: Design Flaw?

On my website, www.valianceguild.com, i tried to update it and it seemed to be working great for me and my friends. Now before i went to finish the site, i found out the it doesnt display correctly on high resolutions. The buttons and text begin to drift from where they are supposed to be. Can anyone help? Im using Dreamweaver CS3, and the objects are in divs. I will probally need step by step instructions lol

Answer by bunnyrage
Your problem is that you are using a background image for your whole layout. This pretty much means it will display incorrectly on every resolution except yours.

I frankly would suggest that you redo the site and make sure all the pages are uniform. It looks ugly right now.

I would suggest you take a look at this website to get a better grounding of what you’re doing with your divs.

I would suggest starting out using Notepad instead of DW for your first website, but =\

Difference between a Fault plane, trace, scarp?

Question by Olivia F.: Difference between a Fault plane, trace, scarp?

What is the difference between these 3 types of faults? Definitions.. I’m confused

Best answer:

Answer by cakes4southafrica
The fault plane is the planar (flat) surface along which there is slip during an earthquake.

The fault trace is the intersection of a fault with the ground surface; also, the line commonly plotted on geologic maps to represent a fault.

The fault scarp is the feature on the surface of the earth that looks like a step caused by slip on the fault.
