Feature. Sharp corners crack aircraft.

The first jet airliner, the de Havilland Comet, suffered two fatal in-flight breakups in 1954. Investigators traced the failures to metal fatigue that started at sharp-cornered cut-outs in the fuselage. Stress concentrates at corners, so airliners since have rounded openings.
