How do you string a telecaster correctly?

Question by patrick w: How do you string a telecaster correctly?

My guitar is a fender telecaster, whenever I string it up, and tune it, I have to hold down the string with a pair of pliers as its sticking out of the machine head. occasionally when i play, it pops out. Fenders have a really stupid design. Can anyone tell me an easier way?
Note: The top of the machine head is open, it isn’t closed/has a top like a gibson. That’s why it pops out.
