Question by T J: retailers recall Simplicity bassinets ?

WASHINGTON – Eleven more retailers have recalled Simplicity bassinets, bringing the total to 17 that have decided to recall the infant beds, which are linked to the deaths of two babies

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday that 11 additional retailers are pulling from their shelves the “close-sleeper/bedside sleeper” bassinets because the products pose a strangulation hazard. Those retailers include AAFES, Amazon.com LLC, Bed Bath and Beyond/BuyBuyBaby, Burlington Coat Factory, Chelsea & Scott LTD (OneStepAhead), CSN Stores, Fingerhut Direct Marketing, Kohl’s Department Stores, ShopKo Stores Inc., Sweet Pea Decor, and six stores of USA Baby.

The agency first announced on Aug. 28 that Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Toys “R” Us Inc., Kmart Corp., Big Lots, Target, J.C. Penney have recalled the products. The recall affects nearly 900,000 bassinets.

In recalling the Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets, the retailers have agreed to provide a refund or store credit to consumers who return the product to the store where they purchased it, CPSC said.

A 6-month-old girl from Shawnee, Kan., was strangled on Aug. 21 when she became trapped between the bassinet’s metal bars. In September 2007, a 4-month-old girl from Noel, Mo., became trapped in the bassinet’s metal bars and died.

The Simplicity bassinets have metal bars spaced farther apart than federal standards allow. Julie Vallese, a CPSC spokeswoman, said consumers can tell if their Simplicity bassinet is recalled if it has removable fabric that is fastened by Velcro.

SFCA Inc., the company that purchased the assets of Reading, Pa.-based Simplicity Inc. earlier this year, has refused to recall the products. SFCA maintains that it is not responsible for products previously manufactured by Simplicity.

Simplicity convertible sleeper recall, product recalls in general, any time limit to return?

product recall

Question by ngj03: Simplicity convertible sleeper recall, product recalls in general, any time limit to return?

For a product recall, is there ever a time limit. I bought this about 3 years ago and was saving it for my next child. Can I still bring it in since it is now on recall? I don’t have the box or receipt at this point. Thanks so much.
Its a bassinet, and there is a recall going on:

I don’t think the crib recall is issuing refunds. Instead they’re sending out a free repair kit. More info: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07307.html

Q&A: Simplicity Crib Recalls…?

Question by ?Mommy to 2 year old Jacob?: Simplicity Crib Recalls…?

So I just found out the Simplicity Christina Crib N’ Changer combo crib I have is recalled… and my model number is one of them. Last year I heard this too but the email said if the hardware was installed correctly and not upside down then it’s fine…. now that is not the case and this is a totally new recall.

My husband’s friend got us this from Netshops.com and she sent me this email
Today the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of several models of drop side cribs manufactured by Simplicity Inc. and SFCA Inc. According to our records, you purchased one of these cribs from Netshops. (The model numbers that Netshops sold are 8756, 8765, and 8996.) Per the recall the CPSC is advising that you stop using these cribs immediately.

Recalls are the responsibility of the manufacturer of the product. We, however, have been unable to get in touch with Simplicity today. If you have a crib affected by this recall, please call 866-508-1142, to arrange for a replacement.

If you have any questions about this recall, please go to www.cpsc.gov.

Thank you.

What do you think will be done? Will it be replaced or do we have to do that now? I have already emailed netshops… but what they hell!? Starting tomorrow for nap he’ll go in his pack and play for the time being (he’s already asleep now and I hate to wake him..) but who else is dealing with this??
I just found a good one if this is what I comes to for us… http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10630001

I am so torn… and upset. I loved this crib dammit. lol
hubby wants to go set up pack n play now,…but poor Jacob is sleeping soundly and I hate to disturb him.. it wont fit in the door put together.. but I figure we’ve gone since 3 months old in it so he’ll be fine for one more night

We’re going though this too. We ordered ours online at Walmart.com, so we could easily take ours in to get a refund. Now, we are going to go shopping this weekend. In the meantime, Kaelin sleeps in her pack n play. She’s not too picky where she sleeps — we could put her in a cardboard box and she’d be okay with it! lol

I’m not looking forward to crib hunting again!
