Is it okay to reuse a 2007 graco infant seat?

Question by Durty’s Wifey: Is it okay to reuse a 2007 graco infant seat?

It was my daughters and it was never in any wrecks and still in great condition. My new baby will be born in Feb 2010, so the car seat will be 3 years old by then. It’s been stored in a hall closet since last year. Is it still safe to use or do I have to puchase a newer one?

I don’t know the answer, but am starring this because I need to know as well!

Having said that…I thought I heard somewhere that after 5 years you needed to get a new one.

Q&A: Is everyone aware of the infant sling carrier recall?

consumer product recalls
by Public Citizen

Question by Tiggy’s Momma: Is everyone aware of the infant sling carrier recall?

Infantino is recalling about 100,000 of its SlingRider Infant Carriers in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The plastic slider on the carrier’s fabric strap can break. This can cause the strap supporting the carrier to release and infants to fall out of the carrier. The manufacturer has received 10 reports of the plastic sliders breaking, including eight reports of babies falling out of the carriers. Four children were taken to the emergency room due to their injuries, and one of these children fractured her skull.

This recall involves the Infantino SlingRider carriers with item numbers: 141-210; 151-210; 151-528; and 151-534. The carriers are sold in black or khaki. “Infantino” is printed on the plastic slider located on the strap. The item number is printed on a label inside the SlingRider. Products labeled “Made in Thailand” or “New 2007 Design” are not included in the recall.

The carriers were sold from July 2006 through February 2007.
if you have the effected models (like i do) go to www.infantino.com and they give you a free shipping label to send it back and they will send you a free replacement item
I never use mine (thank god) because my daughter hates it… every time i put her in it she starts to scream…

baby car seats, cribs, playpens

Generally no. I don’t know of any that do. My car seat was recalled & the “fix” was ridiculous – it took my carrier style seat that pops in & out & made it completely stationary & there was no option for refund. All those crib recalls now – their fix is to make it so the rail won’t drop at all on the side (which is a BIG deal for short people because it can mean NOT being able to put a sleeping baby over the rail…) and again no refund available. They are not required to refund or exchange if they can make a fix of basically ANY kind to make it safe for use, even if it makes it less functional.

I wish it were different. It stinks when you get stuck with something that doesn’t operate the way it is supposed to, especially if it disables a feature that was KEY to why you bought it.
