Need some assistance on schooling for Graphic Design?
Question by K.W.: Need some assistance on schooling for Graphic Design?
I have been home-schooled through American School for the past 4 years, and have just recently graduated in April. After seeing alot of people go off to college, it gave me quite a bit of incentive to get some form of a career path moving along.
So at the current moment I work at Best Buy and they have a tuition assistance program I will be looking into. I have not taken any standardized testing due to the fact I was home-schooled, so I will be taking that somewhere if it is needed. I live about an hour outside of Chicago and was for a time looking at either “The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago or Schaumburg,” or “Westwood College.” I recently started looking at “The School at the Art Institute of Chicago.” So far after doing a bit of digging around I am leaning towards the latter, I obviously wanna get my money’s worth out of it.
I am basically going to ask some really basic questions just so I get an idea from some real people, and not just a web site.
I would like to know and posotive or negatives about any of these schools.?
What the main difference between Visual Communications & Graphic Design is?(Stupid one, I know)
Any good places to start looking for grants?
What the difficulty level is of getting into any of these?
What is the helpfulness of the teachers in these schools?
I am not just some kid fresh out of school that thinks I can design, I have the creative desire, but not the knowledge to create it. I don’t have a HUGE amount of work to put together for a portfolio. I have a bunch of forum signatures I have made, some logos, as well as some work I have done for my Dad, as he is a photographer, so I have some high school senior model work, as well as 1 corporate design, that made in into a European DanFoss magazine as a full page print.
I plan on going to the local college and speaking to a counselor, as well as my sister-in-law’s brother got a degree in graphic design in Ohio, because he needed a scientific degree to go to law school.
I plan on driving it everyday, so the plan if possible is to go to class Mon-Thurs, 9-5ish. I don’t exactly know where I would like to work, a big wish is “The Ant Farm” in L.A. I know the owners son or nephew, so we’ll see what happens there. If I need a letter of reference the best place for me to get that would be my tutor probably, so I would like to know if that would be acceptable to the school.
Thanks for all your help!

First off, a graphic design degree is usually a bachelor of fine arts, not a bachelor of science. Schools like Westwood offer programs called graphic design that are really computer design for people who have no real art skills. Graphic design is a field which has been to some extent mislabeled in recent years, and due to the influx of colleges like Westwood that advertise on TV and make it seem like graphic design is a great and lucrative career, there can be more designers than there are jobs. It really does depend on what type of design you want to do, but if you don’t have an art background at all you can get into school, but won’t do as well.
I don’t know much about The Ant Farm, but design in general can be pretty competitive, especially in certain venues and locations. And pretty much any potential employer will be more interested in a portfolio and schooling than a reference letter and who you may know. Also, if you plan to go to downtown Chicago from suburbia, give serious consideration to the Metra train to get there and back. It is way faster and cheaper, and if you’ve ever had to park downtown you know what I mean.

Question by : My Co-worker’s Son wants to career in fashion design and he’s straight, why do ppl think u need to be gay?
now, she’s fine with him taking it it’s just other members of her family are saying is he gay? I think that’s stupid, you don’t need to be gay to take fashion design.

Answer by Clint
Of course you don’t need to be gay or straight to do any type of work. But fashion design is so heavily represented by us that straight people (and many gays) will assume that if you’re a fashion designer, you’re probably gay.
For a straight guy it’s actually a great career choice. He’ll be around extraordinarily beautiful women, and without much competition for their affection!

Did you know that your homeowners insurance does not cover water damage due to natural flooding? Overflowing rivers, tidal surges, city storm drain backups, and storm driven rain may flood your home but unless you have specific coverage against these perils, you’re likely on your own.
In addition to natural flood disasters, your homeowner’s insurance policy most likely specifically excludes flooding due to sewer backups and “seepage.” Some insurance companies do offer special endorsements for coverage due to sewer backups. If you want this type of coverage, call your insurance agent and see if it’s available. Water seepage is considered a maintenance issue and is not generally covered by insurance. Your best protection against water seepage is to evaluate and maintain your home.
Flood insurance is available to cover your home against flooding. This type of insurance is often referred to as a “single peril” policy. The National Flood Insurance Program offers policies covering natural flooding such as storm surges, snow melt, heavy rains, levee failures, blocked storm drains, and other flood events. However, a flood must be significant enough in order for the flood insurance to kick in. For example, the floodwaters must either affect two or more properties or cover at least two acres.
Some lenders require flood insurance policies, normally if you live within a designated flood plain. Flood hazard maps are used to determine a property’s risk. High risk properties need a standard policy.
If you don’t live in a flood plain, you probably won’t be required to obtain a flood insurance policy. However, flood insurance is available for low to moderate risk properties. Nearly 25% of all flood insurance claims are located in these lower risk areas. Policies for low-to-moderate risk properties are less expensive. These policies are called “preferred risk” policies.
You can purchase flood insurance from your own insurance agent or locate an approved insurance agent through the FloodSmart.gov Web site. Shopping around for flood insurance isn’t necessary because rates are set by the National Flood Insurance Program and are based on flood maps.
An interesting note if you’re considering buying flood insurance is that there is a 30-day waiting period before your policy goes into effect. You can’t look at the weather report and decide to buy flood insurance just before a hurricane makes landfall. The two exceptions to this waiting period are when the initial purchase is made in conjunction with certain loans in high risk areas or when the initial purchase is made within a year of a flood map change.
Water damage can and will occur regardless of whether you have flood insurance. Having the right type of policy can help you pay for repairs.

Nope. It’s a basic factory job. Mostly production. The most important qualification is staying up to date on your software, printing standards, and basic coding practices.
Ten years ago it was a great field. These days there is not much work to be found, and you will enerally be treated badly by employers because there are so many candidates that they can just shop for the most compliant and the most willing to take low salaries.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – What is flood insurance and do you need it?
Flood insurance will protect your home and property in the case of a flood. Flood insurance is available to homeowners, renters and businesses. Most homeowner insurance policy coverage does not include flood damage. You should evaluate your risk of flooding when purchasing or renting a home. You may live in a flood hazard area and would be required to have flood insurance. High risk would be required to have a standard policy. A standard policy does not cover the contents of your home but you can purchase additional coverage for your personal property which would be wise because if your home was flooded, you can bet you would have personal property damage or loss.
You may not be required to purchase flood insurance if you live in a minimal or moderate flood hazard area but you may still want to purchase flood insurance to protect your home and property. It may be wise in case of natural flooding, you may lose all your possesions plus damages to your home and property and you would be responsible for your own losses and not protected. Natural events happen all the time and cannot be predicted. It is wise to be prepared. Natural flooding refers to snow melt, heavy rains, levee failures and other natural events, however assess your risk of flooding because floodwaters must affect two or more properties or cover two acres at least.
Flood insurance policy premiums will vary depending on your risk assesment, amounts of coverage, type of coverage along with deductables. There are three different types of flood policies. Dwelling refers to your home, General property refers to four or more family buildings or commercial buildings and last Residential Condominium Building Association Policy refers to condominiums. There is a thirty day waiting period on new flood insurance policies so it is not wise to purchase just before the local hurricane is about to hit. You will not be covered untill after the waiting period.
Flood insurance can be beneficial if you are in a flood zone or if natural flooding occurs. Consider your risks before purchasing flood insurance and check on premiums because sometimes it may be cheaper than you expected it to be and better to be safe than sorry. Check and see if you are at risk, check policies available to you, check deductables and check into property flood insurance to protect your personal property if you are getting flood insurance for your dwelling and then decide if flood insurance in needed for your home.

go to coolchaser. once you get the code, there should be a little section at the beginning of the HTML coding. It will say something about coolchaser and banner blah, blah, blah… just delete that part. And there u have it no ads

me and my friend try to design stupid machine, need info? ?
Question by Aaron S: me and my friend try to design stupid machine, need info? ?
ok once this has been answered i’ll tell you how all these things relate:
what is the average weight of a male and female (i mean human, for all those pedantic out there, keep up the good work ; ))
what is the weight of the moon
what is the density of steel
what is the highest amount of rpm achieved by a man made engine including jet turbines and stuff like that.
generally at what speed would a human impacting with water disintegrate or come close to disintegrating (been squashed to about the thickness of a pancake by surface tension is good too)
and just for comparison how many joules was produced when the largest atomic bomb went off.
answer all these and you get best answer and explanation of what the hell we are thinking of making (well not actually making but lathing over, man we’re sadistic).

Answer by Dave D
1 million tons of TNT contains 4.2E15 joules of energy. So the largest atomic bomb ever tested was 60 megatons, or 2.5E17 joules.
When Mythbusters dropped Buster into water from a height of 100 feet, he was utterly destroyed. So you can compute the velocity from that.
The highest RPM ever attained was a small diameter magnetically levitated steel needle, which was spun up to 60 million RPM before the centrifugal force caused it to fail.

Having some stupid web design trouble, need help.?
Question by KPizzle: Having some stupid web design trouble, need help.?
So yeah, basically I haven’t even really added anything yet. All I’m trying to do is get a background color and a background image set and to repeat horizontally in a external style sheet. I can’t seem to find any errors in my XHTML file and everything seems like it should. I did link the file in the XHTML so I don’t know whats happening, maybe I did something wrong, I don’t know. I can’t find the problem. When I upload it to my host to see if it works, absolutely nothing comes up, not the colors, nor the image. I’m not very good at web design yet, so any tips will also be appreciated.
Here’s the XHTML part of it:
And here’s the style sheet link:

Thanks

Take out the # sign in the CSS.
You only use a number sign if you are referring to a div’s id, like if you had done this:
Then, you would have to refer to that by #body. When you just want to address the actual body of your HTML, you don’t use it.

I need to explain the level of a consumer’s expectation of a recalled product, suchas a DvD player.?

You don’t give much on details. But personally, if I owned a DVD that was recalled, my expectations would be that they provide shipping to and from my home, and a very quick replacement at no additional cost. Also a quick, “sorry to inconveniece” you letter signed by the president of the company.
my 2 cents… hopefully this is the type of response you were looking for.
