Why do intelligent people still believe in religion? 5: The Strawman

This video shows that the strawman argument is a longstanding biblical tradition

Video Rating: 4 / 5

Masaru Emoto was born in Yokohama in July 1943. He is a graduate of the Yokohama Municipal University’s department of humanities and sciences, with a focus on International Relations. In 1986, he established the IHM Corporation in Tokyo. In October of 1992, he received certification from the Open International University as a Doctor of Alternative Medicine. Subsequently he was introduced to the concept of micro cluster water in the US and Magnetic Resonance Analysis technology. The quest thus began to discover the mystery of water. He undertook extensive research of water around the planet, not so much as a scientific researcher, but more from the perspective of an original thinker. At length, he realized that it was in the frozen crystal form, that water showed us its true nature. He has gained worldwide acclaim through his groundbreaking research and discovery, that water is deeply connected to our individual and collective consciousness He is the author of the best-selling books Messages from Water, The Hidden Messages in Water, The True Power of Water and Love Thyself. He has now also authored two children’s books, The Secret of Water for the children of the world, and The Message from Water children’s version. He is a long-time advocate for peace in relation to water. He is currently the head of IHMGeneral Research Institute and President Emeritus of the International Water for Life Foundation, a Not-for-Profit Organization. The arguments in Islam against idol worship are similar too, a bit like calling someone retarded if they buy an action figure and they think it’s the? real character. Nobody thinks that, except for me, for a few minutes, seeing a Chucky doll in Forbidden Planet…:O

  2. anubis2814 says:

Please, make some more claims without actually knowing what you are talking about and doing nothing to correct your ignorance. You are just making yourself like an idiot even though? you show you are intelligent enough to learn what science actually says if you weren’t too lazy and sure of your arguments. Hell if you knew what you were talking about its possible you could actually convince me, but that would take actual effort and book larnin.

  3. anubis2814 says:

For the latter we have none but we have demonstrated stages of life to non-life occurring easily in nature which is why it is not a done deal yet /watch?v=jTCoKlB0s4Y. Donexodus2 has exampls? of lizards, mosquitos and bird becoming new species over just a 10-100 year period. Mutation rate is a scientific law that we can trace back in the genes and there is SO much variation in the fossil record there is no way they could have all lived within a 6000 year period like young earth claims.

  4. anubis2814 says:

Its amazing how easily you made such a glaring error in your foundational understanding of basic biology without blinking an eye and then still make the assumption? that you understand natural selection enough to continue this discussion. You do not know enough to have an opinion of your own on this subject because you are terribly lacking in your knowledge of any evidence to weight one way or another. Donexodus2 has great videos on this subject, educate yourself first THEN you can have an opinion

  5. anubis2814 says:

I guess all biologists lie then because? transposons and reverse transcriptase are both common knowlege and key tools used in modern genetic engineering, As a microbiologist I have used reverse transcriptase myself to put DNA into both prokayotic and eukaryotic cells. However as you will just plug your ears and call myself and the entire field of biology and genetics a liar because they may make you change the way you think about reality then no amount of evidence I can provide will matter.

  6. anubis2814 says:

You seem to be unaware of invasive DNA and reverse transcriptase. This shoves outside DNA randomly into your own genome. These outside DNA can then evolve via mutation to make different organism specific aka NEW genes if the environment selects for them. Same with transposons that randomly move dna around in your cells. We have replicated many stages of the process of abiogeneis via biochemistry that causes life based on the crystaline? morphology of chemicals.

  7. anubis2814 says:

Please look up abiogenesis on wikipedia. You are so badly informed on either subject until you raise your level of understanding on the subject, I cannot discuss anything with you. Natural selection selects from what is present and as mutations and crossovers cause variation it will select based on those? mutation gradients. You are using a strawman about all of science and missed the entire point of this video.

  8. Doctordelicious1111 says:

    you never actually defined? strawmaning

  9. TruthSayerLieSlayer says:

The fact that the book needed to be translated is it’s greatest Flaw. If it is the word of God then why did it need people to translate it? Why wasn’t it already in every possible language so that everyone can read it and mistakes be avoided? Why would a perfect God write a perfect word and allow it to fall into imperfect hands? And if some parts of the translation are? incorrect then how do we know that not all of the translation is incorrect? Why should we trust your explanation?

I was born and raised Catholic, went to private school until 8th grade and? I’m now 19 and a strong free thinker atheist. My parents are still religious and go to mass every Sunday but have no problem with me or my older brother being atheist. In my situation I would say that my experience makes me a better free thinker. I got to experience the manipulation first hand and see what it can do. Sadly, most parents do not react the same way as mine.

  11. 8698gil says:

What amazes me is that adults still believe in religion. I quit believing when I was 10 years old, at the same time I stopped believing in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy. ?

  12. shedininja001 says:

    Good work? on this video.

  13. beanie928 says:

For once and for all, “gay” is not a life-style, or an agenda, or a choice. These folks are part of the 10% of all mammalian species who gravitate to same sex? relationships. It has nothing to do with religion or a “god”. It just is. Deal with it!

  14. Niekoue says:

In fact you can’t know how I’ve been raised nor what I’ve been taught. I have read these passages, and I don’t think this restriction was as harsh as it may appear at first sight. You should also note that the letter which the passage is from was? adressed to a specific church. Paul didn’t write so in all his letters. Maybe that was a problem in that specific church. And the “problems” about the translation are only when you go very deep inside the sentence. 🙂

  15. anubis2814 says:

I did read the comment, it still makes no sense. I understand that women may not be able to preach, but Jesus’s teachings were made to be simple. Shouldn’t women have needed the ability to? ask MORE questions to play catchup? And I know you don’t see the flaws You’ve been taught like I was to be conditioned to not actually read and contemplate what the bible is saying and give it a free pass. If there are that many translation problems, how can you know what the writers are actually saying?

  16. Niekoue says:

Hey there 🙂 You might have missed it, but I? actually wrote an explanation on Paul’s quote. About Jesus, the matter is what is written in the original language, as a translation always has flaws.. So I don’t really see those flaws you are talking about.

  17. anubis2814 says:

@Niekoue K then why were women not allowed to ask questions in church and they had to wait to get home? plus jesus? message was pretty damn simple not sure how much theology was needed yo know. I can keep finding flaws in your book all day

  18. Niekoue says:

About the quote of Paul. In that time, men were the ones who dealt with theology and religion. Therefore women didn’t really know anything about it. So when men were discussing theology, women shouldn’t? interfere, because they didn’t know anything about it. Today where women are priests as well as men, women are ofcause allowed to speak in such discussions.

  19. Niekoue says:

True, but the law isn’t just the law. There were several “laws”: the laws of ceremonies, the law of Moses, the ten commandments and so on. The law Jesus is referring to in Mat 5 is the ten commandments. There certainly are some “laws” which? were given in context of the culture and society of Israel at the given time. For example, the heden christians didn’t have to be circumcised. Nor did the christians sacrafice lambs n’ stuff.

  20. anubis2814 says:

Um sorry I beg to differ. Perhaps if you are strictly following the teachings of Jesus as his teachings were revolutionary, but he said that the law was still to be followed in Matthew 5. The law states you can take a war bride? home after killing her family, give her 30 days to morn and then take her by force. It says you can own foreign slaves indefinitely and if you beat one and they die a day later its cool. Paul says women need to shut up and slaves need to be submissive. Not much better

  21. Niekoue says:

    true..
But in? the end, being religious is not such a bad thing after all. Man cannot prove nor disprove the existence of God. And the guidelines of christianity (if properly based on the Bible – there will always be fanatics) are all good for yourself. Forgiveness and love and stuff… You’ll end up living a happier life, and who knows? – maybe two 🙂

  22. anubis2814 says:

There is nothing new about intelligent design we have been fighting it for 10 years now. Irreducible complexity is a myth. Michael Behe didn’t even read any of the mountains of literature on the evolution of the flagella which was at one point a type III secretion system, before he went to court trying to spread it in schools and got his ass handed to him because he was lazy. /watch?v=W96AJ0ChboU ? /watch?v=LZdCxk0CnN4 /watch?v=ieKDLtrBXs0 My 1st videos were made to counter a video on that

  23. Niekoue says:

    I will. 🙂
Have you heard of Intelligent Design? It’s a new group of scientists who says evolution just can’t be true. Some animals are so complex in structure and? mechanism, that there just are no way it could’ve occured from random mutations. All the small components had to be there at the same time for the animal to live and function. Common examples are the bombardier beetle, the european woodpecker, the human eye and lots more.

  24. anubis2814 says:

You can find someone in any field supporting any view they are just on the crazy fringe and a seriously small minority. I never was going to discuss your IQ or mine. It sounds like you understand what the sciences say but not why. I suggest you watch? all of the videos from Bill Nye’s series “100 greatest discoveries” you can find here on youtube. they have a video on each branch of science and I suggest you focus on the videos discussing geology or earth science, evolution and astronomy
