Have someone ever told you something so stupid, you just stared at them with your mouth wide open?

Question by GGP: Have someone ever told you something so stupid, you just stared at them with your mouth wide open?

By stupid i mean relating to God/Religion/Atheism, whatever.

I was once told that the earth was covered with a thick layered sphere of ice that, when it collapsed, caused the “Great Flood”.

Also, i once saw a video on Intelligent Design where the idiot talking said that you can spread ONE water molecule so thin that it would cover the Earth’s surface. The crowd agreed with him.

This is all I have to say about that:

Steve Jones, the award-winning geneticist and author, argued that suggesting that creationism and evolution be given equal weight in education was “rather like starting genetics lectures by discussing the theory that babies are brought by storks”. Panda’s thumb

I was told by a self-proclaimed “intelligent and educated” Atheist that Jesus sacrificed children to God in the Bible. He went off on a tirade when I told him no such verse existed. He then retaliated and called me an inbred uneducated idiot and then blocked me. All because I wanted proof for his claim. Is that so wrong?

I once saw a user on here claim that the prophecy where God will make the women of Damascus bald is somehow telling us Christians to rape women.

I have been told by religious people that the laws of thermodynamics prove God’s existence. I’ve also been told by Atheists that the laws of thermodynamics disprove God. Both are quite ridiculous to anyone with knowledge of thermodynamics.

I saw a user on here once say “Timothy was a bigot who wrote the books of Timothy to show Paul that he too hated women”. He then let Christians know that they should maybe read the Bible like he did so that they wouldn’t be so stupid and know this. Too bad he didn’t know that Paul wrote the books of Timothy. Timothy was receiving the letters, not writing them.

I’ve seen people say that God is too intrusive, yet complain that he hasn’t come along and stopped people from hurting each other. Well, which is it? Intrude or don’t intrude?

When I’ve seen people say “I’ve read the Bible and know it better than you” and then ask “If Noah took two of every animal on the boat, what did he eat?” If you’ve read it, you know how stupid that question is.

When I told a Christian girl that I was an atheist, she said, “Well, SATAN is an atheist too!”

And then this other girl was positive that Obama was the antichrist, so I asked her, “Why do you believe that?” and she said, “The bible says so!”

  5. Gazoo says:

    Oh sure.

This one guy was talking about the second law of thermodynamics and said that it says that for more order that it would require an input of energy. Absolutely a perfect interpretation of it. Then he said that science has never identified any input of energy to the Earth……..

    That threw me

FYI: to the fundies…..I think science knows about the Sun.

There was someone in my Western Civ class in college six or seven years ago who thought that Jesus sat in a throne right over our town. Literally: right over our town.

  9. Paul says:

What you were told, however, is both stupid AND is not supported by Scripture.

No. I don’t think I’ve ever met you.

But I can understand why you might have provoked that reaction.

A TIP: Using your present user name, “Local Retard”, might be increasing the chances of your continually getting that kind of reaction from people. You gotta admit, such a name doesn’t make the best first impression as to your intelligence. (Sorry. Just being honest with you.)

What is scary to me is that many of the people who cheered over the one molecule probably drove home afterward, Such people shouldn’t be allowed to operate a motor vehicle.

  18. B Knott Wildered says:

When I first started a systematic study of religion that led me to being a very strong, very staunch Atheist I started a notebook with three columns. The first column was evidence for a region being true or for God’s existence, the middle one evidence that could go either way and the final one evidence there was no God. From day one I had something in every column no matter what religion I was studying. So for me, even though Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, the Sabean religion and Zoroastrianism are to a greater or lesser degree tottering behemoths of myth, false teachings and superstition, by far the most incredibly stupid thing I have ever heard or read from anyone is the intellectually vapid claim by the Atheists that there is no evidence for God. The fact is that as far as I am concerned, anyone that claims that is living on a faith just as blind of that of any religious fundamentalist. The fact is there is a great deal of evidence going both directions and to try ignore it, even if you are successful at doing so, does not make the evidence go away. One water molecule covering the whole Earth? Even if you could, so what? Proves nothing. But I think I could use a good belly laugh right now. Is that video on YouTube maybe?

Oh, that reminds me of Ravi Zacharias, if you do not mind me adding a bit. He uses such exuberant rhetoric and such marvelous voice inflections and such a wondrous array of gesticulations, body language in general and facial expressions that even though I think his assertions, stories and thinking are pathologically illogical, he gets (some) people so excited they think he is a genius. I think I have a link to a YouTube video and if I can find it will put it in as an edit.
