Question by bpgagirl22: Re: Mattel Toys – How can we retain our faith in a company who has so blatantly let their customers down?!?
Robert Eckert, chairman & CEO of Mattel, warned @ a news conference last month that there may be more recalls of tainted toys as the company steps up its investigations into its Chinese factories & retests products. Still, the latest action could be another blow to Mattel, which had cultivated an image of tightly controlling production in China. The Consumer Product Safety Comm. also said yesterday that it was considering a possible investigation of whether Mattel notified authorities as quickly as it should have in connection with the Aug. 14 recall. With more than 80 % of toys sold worldwide made in China, toy sellers are nervous that shoppers will shy away from their products during this year’s critical holiday season. Last month, Mattel vowed that it would tighten its controls at its factories in China. Ther is no point in believing these mnc’s anymore… all they need is money.. Its better to focuss on developing countries and companies based from it than believe a well established mnc.
What do you think? Answer below!
I agree. I’ve lost confidence in them. I suppose that the good news, if any, is that they are voluntarily recalling these items. They could probably maintain a good cover-up if they wanted to.
well, I for one think Mattel is doing everything it can at this point to step up to the plate and take responsibility for it’s mistakes. Their website makes it very easy to determine if you have problem merchandise, they will send you a prepaid mailing label to send the stuff to the company, and then they are sending you merchandise vouchers for very close to what the items originally cost. Mattel is standing up and saying “this is what happened, you all need to know about it, this is what we are doing to help now and make sure it doesn’t happen again”. The reason there have been the new recalls is that Mattel has been testing all their stuff/researching production to determine what else might be dangerous. Honestly, I don’t know if all companies would do that. I think a lot would try to cover it up or certainly not go looking for more problems. So no, my faith is not totally gone from Mattel. Chinese made toys perhaps, but not Mattel. Any toymaker who does business in China faces the same problems but doesn’t have Mattel’s big pockets to fix them.
Yeah, I know. It is really sad, especially since my baby cousin, Owen, who is 3 loves Geotracks. Those have since been recalled. And really, how can we gain faith back in China when they have let us down 2 times? First, the Dog food and Cat food recall and now this, the Mattel recall? WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!? Almost every toy in the world has been made in China, now they have to let us down because they don’t sell it in stores anymore? I HATE CHINA!What is up with them? Before we know it, they will be poisoning all of our food, and their food too. They have to be careful. Before we know it, the whole world will be made of lead and lead paint! Geez! This is really stupid. If China keeps letting us down, I think we might go to war with them. I know I would. This is crazy!
Enough of that. well, bye!!!
(sigh) What a big disappointment, huh? You put so much trust in a company for so many years, especially one that even our babies chew on their toys and they turn around and do this.
I will think twice, and then walk past the Fisher Price and Mattel toys from now on. I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. Tighten it’s controls, or not…
You’ve lost my TRUST.
