Question by madaznfootballer: Stupid Engineering question about foundation design…?
in foundation design where I have to use continuous footing, is that adequate enough to have just continuous footings with rebar around the all the walls of a 2 story commercial structure…or am i missing some other necessary components (i.e. slab on grade, spread footings, etc…)….sorry i’m new at this…

There’s nothing wrong with a continuous footing around a 2 story structure. If you have columns inside you’ll need pads for those as well of course. A slab on grade would work also, as long as you’re not in an area that freezes. I don’t know what your exterior walls are like, but if they’re light, like metal siding, you could even just attach them to columns and use spread footers at the columns. I assume though that it’s probably the typical masonry facade with a wood or steel stud wall making up the real structure. I would probably go with the strip footer like you indicated, for simplicity and low cost.
