Canterbury Earthquake – first flyover of fault trace

GNS Scientists make an initial aerial assessment of the fault trace southwest of Christchurch

Chilean students have taken over schools and city streets in the largest protests the country has seen in decades. These actions are causing a political crisis for the country’s billionaire President, Sebastian Piñera. The students are demanding free education, and an end to the privatization of their schools and universities. The free-market based approach to education was implemented by the military dictator Augusto Pinochet in his last days in power. As the demonstrations in Chile coincide with protests erupting globally, Fault Lines follows the Chilean student movement during their fight in a country that is among the most unequal in the world. AES Tutorial: Design of High-Performance Balanced Audio Interfaces by Bill Whitlock

High signal-to-noise ratio is an important goal for most audio systems. However, AC power connections unavoidably create ground voltage differences, magnetic fields, and electric fields. Balanced interfaces, in theory, are totally immune to such interference. For 50 years, virtually all audio equipment used transformers at its balanced inputs and outputs. Their high noise rejection was taken for granted and the reason for it all but forgotten. The transformer’s extremely high common-mode impedance—about a thousand times that of its solid-state equivalents—is the reason. Traditional input stages will be discussed and compared. A novel IC that compares favorably to the best transformers are described. Widespread misunderstanding of the meaning of balance as well as the underlying theory has resulted in all-too-common design mistakes in modern equipment and seriously flawed testing methods. Therefore, noise rejection in today’s real-world systems is often inadequate or marginal. Other topics will include tradeoffs in output stage design, effects of non-ideal cables, and the pin 1 problem. Q&A: What is the average roof repair cost?

stupid design
by Rakka

Question by : What is the average roof repair cost?

My roof has a section of shingles that have been ripped off somehow and the insurance won’t pay for the repair. I think the wood underneath might need to be replaced on that section as well.

It is an older model home with 4 shingled sections leading up to a large flat area on the top so the pitch is really steep. I think the design is stupid but its the only house in the area I could afford. I have it covered with a tarp but it needs to be fixed.

Modern Warfare 2 – Montage – “The First” (TAR-21)

Modern Warfare 2 – Montage – “The First” I did name it “Tarnation-21”, but after a while I thought it sounded a bit stupid, so I just putted “The First” since this was my first montage. I used a Tar-21. In my first montage (this one), I used a TAR-21. A Tar-21 is a weapon that has impecable damage, but as a negative a bad recognition for its accuracy. Everything else is accurate. The IMI Tavor TAR-21 is a weapon in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It is an Israeli bullpup assault rifle chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition with a selective fire system. The name “TAR 21” stands for “Tavor Assault Rifle – 21st Century”. IMI had made this weapon to have the same overall power of an M16, but in a smaller and more innovative design. It is the standard issued weapon of the Givati Brigade (since August 2006) and Golani Brigade (since August 2008), with the Nahal Brigade receiving it in 2010. The TAR 21 was selected as the future assault rifle of the Israeli Defense Forces, and within the next few years it will become the standard Israeli infantry weapon. Design flaw: why aren’t all laptops manufactured out of metal (steel, aluminium), like the Apple Macbook Pro?

Question by Corruptor Bot ¦ÆЩ±®¬: Design flaw: why aren’t all laptops manufactured out of metal (steel, aluminium), like the Apple Macbook Pro?

Why aren’t all laptops manufactured out of metal (steel, aluminium), like the Apple Macbook Pro?

My father recently purchased an Apple Macbook Pro. Very impressive notebook computer. But what really caught my attention is the fact that it’s made from a single block of genuine aluminium. Thus I just wondered why aren’t most electronic devices and consumer electronic products and their external shells made out of metal? Surely then it will be near-indestructible.

And another flaw I noticed in many mobile phones is that the LCD screen is positioned too close to the actual plastic screen surrounding it. To see what I mean, look at a Samsung D600, and look at the screen from an angle, and you’ll notice there’s a fairly large gap between the plastic screen and the actual LCD inside. This is good. Because without the gap, you can drop the phone and the LCD will crack easily. Many laptops have this same design flaw.

My previous macbook had a plastic case. It worked fine, no problems. My current one is made from aluminum. It’s fine also. A bit thinner than the previous one.

Milling something from a block of aluminum is expensive. The manufacturer has to make tradeoffs between cost and usability, and they all make the tradeoff’s differently. Don’t forget the unit with the aluminum case sells for 00.

Question by Punjabibydefault: What was the product for a commercial – 2 ladies having tea, tornado comes, one says she is going to basement?

Trying to locate a commercial on youtube. I cannot remember the product. There were 2 ladies having tea. One looks out the window & spots a tornado and says “I am going to get some napkins…down in the basement” or something like that. Have tried many times, cannot find this commercial. Anyone recall the product (sounds like it could be napkins, but not sure)?

How do you string a telecaster correctly?

Question by patrick w: How do you string a telecaster correctly?

My guitar is a fender telecaster, whenever I string it up, and tune it, I have to hold down the string with a pair of pliers as its sticking out of the machine head. occasionally when i play, it pops out. Fenders have a really stupid design. Can anyone tell me an easier way?
Note: The top of the machine head is open, it isn’t closed/has a top like a gibson. That’s why it pops out.
