Question by john c: Why has our stupid society reverted to using hieroglyphics instead of our English language?
Example: Highway signs using picture writing , symbols and designs on our car dasboards, instrument panels. We have come around full cycle from cavemen to literate modern man, and now we are regressing to, or returning to our former caveman status, thanks to our public, dumbell school system.

Let’s see you read a sign going down the highway at 60+ miles that says “Exit 20 curves off to the right with the right most two lanes ahead while the rest of the road continues forward” and remember what it said.
Blame the technology if anything for the dumbing of people. It’s lead to laziness and the wrong types being heard and followed.

I think the street signs are meant to be universal. So if you were from another country that didn’t speak English, you would be able to understand where the rest stops and hospitals are, and how fast to go. It’s not about dumbing down the signs, it’s mainly for foreigners. You’re getting all worked up for a ridiculous reason.
I honestly can’t think of a single example of what you’re talking about that would make any sense to complain about. There’s more writing on highway signs than pictures, and car dashboards use symbols because a dashboard would be hellish to look at if it was just like a paragraph of random words that are either glowing or not in place of symbol-shaped indicator lights. A car dashboard is not supposed to be a Great American Novel.
Also, this has absolutely nothing to do with schools. Schools do a fine job teaching kids how to read and forcing them to increase their vocabulary. If you want to complain about public schools, I could stay up all night ranting alongside you, but this is a really stupid thing to pick on them for.
