I would also like to point out that people are probably busy, or have something important to do or trying to get somewhere, and when the path they are on is cut off, they are going to find another one. Sometimes people stop, most of the time not. You should not judge someone for taking care of there business. I see that they are simply being “worried about theirselves” and “minding their own buisness.” Thats what alot of people get told now isn’t.
You have to live somewhere, I don’t know how other countries are, but everywhere you go, there are problems, and everyone has the right to bitch about them. Don’t tell other people to keep their mouth shut and move to another place. You know what happens when everybody knows something is wrong, but nobody does anything about it, something really stupid happens. Do not come and tell me about what the problem is, go to tell the person that is in charge.

The collapse has nothing to do with resonance or anything. It was due to aeroelastic flutter. During the wind, the vertical mode of the bridge coupled with the second torsional mode causing it to flutter violently and collapsed.
Do humans vibrate at a natural frequency, and if so what would happen if we were hit by waves of the same frequency? Would we be harmed?

@fulmar the tacoma narrows bridge was a structure with a natural resonance frequency of ~1/4 hz. You don’t need ‘negative damping’ for that, all you need is low damping compared to mass and springiness.
Wait until you take differential equations, the tacoma narrows bridge is an example thats brought up regularly. Without differential equations, the tacoma narrows bridge collapse simply doesn’t make sense.
@tzivastitziva It’s not that simple. The collapse is *not* due to resonance as such, since there is no ‘air frequency’ that matches the ~1/4 Hz oscillations of the bridge.
The real reason is negative damping, caused by the formation and shedding of air vortices. It is pretty complicated to model even with modern computers, so it was definitely out of reach in 1940.
