I live in the small town of east prairie, right outside the floodway. Alot of my family and friends lived and worked inside the floodway and have lost everything. But the good thing is they got out and got most of their stuff out so they are alive. That is what matters. If it had broken naturally somewhere else(not just Cairo) it could have been worse and ppl would not have time to get? out. So I do understand why they felt they had to blow it. Answer #1: The? reason they did it at night is for crew safety. People in and around the area own guns…and are just dumb enough to try something irrational. Setting the charge off at night made it a whole lot harder for citizens to see or be anywhere near the crew.
Answer #2: Why did they flood it? Sacrifice one state, save five or six others. Simple as that.
The destroying? of the levee accomplished 2 things… 1. Stirring up the New Madrid Fault line and 2. The destruction of precious farmland in order to start the planned FAMINE of the USA.

I was wondering if maybe they did it at night because of the chances of people being around would be less. I have family in the area (glad I’m in Fl.) and sure would like to know they are safe during an explosion. I myself did? wonder why at night so I had to give myself that conclusion.

*Sigh* The New Madrid Fault can and will? produce a big earthquake someday. But it is not a large enough fault to produce much over an 8. Geology 101, if it’s still taught well. Also, the last big quakes were in the winter = relatively low river levels.
Further, if you REALLY want a lot of water where it might have some leverage (away from the river, flooding SEMO), don’t operate the? floodway. As for Gulf oil “lubricating” the fault, that one’s just completely loopy. It would take a lot of pressure to push it down there. There are much closer natural sources that ARE under pressure. Also, a quake here could be bad, but the fault is simply not long enough to produce the power for “the greatest disaster…” Geology 1, my friend.
Ok, I’ll reword: The worst the Corps could do is move it up a few days. They do not have nukes, etc. Maybe a VERY large, specially designed nuke could do it, but we don’t even know what part of the fault to go after. You are completely ignorant of the meaning of the scale of the forces involved in a major earthquake, aren’t you? As a (private) engineer, I could do the math for you, but I won’t bother glazing your eyes over with actual physics. Suffice it to say that the WORST we humans could possibly do (and still very unlikely) would be to move up such a quake a few days. If it’s due, it’s due. And God help us….?
In the Paducah, KY area alone the crest with the blast was 3+ ft. less than expected with no blast. If anything, the predictions were BEHIND what the river was doing, Monday. I know – I was monitoring levels online. Saved: Paducah Convention Center, Expo. Center, many homes, FARMS & businesses in & aound Paducah, Smithland, Hickman, Wickliffe, KY, Metropolis, IL, large industrial plants? in Calvert City, KY. Reduced damages in many other places. And even that flooding was no big surprise. Prove that one other place flooded, due to this levee breach, that was not on the map as being part of the floodway. Place, time and documentation.
