Question by Mama_Kat: Ready for ANOTHER recall? Ol’ Roy Dry Dog Food?

Doane Pet Care is recalling a specific single lot of 55 pound bonus bags of Ol’ Roy Complete Nutrition dry dog food distributed exclusively by some Wal-Mart Stores.

This product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. People handling this pet food can become exposed to Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with this pet food or any surfaces exposed to this product. Consumers who have the dry dog food bearing the code “04 0735 1” with a “Best By Apr 13 08” should not feed it to their pets. This voluntary recall has been issued because FDA detected Salmonella in the product.

This product was distributed in 69 Wal-Mart stores in Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

For people checking FDA website….for some reason they are hesitating to post the latest findings of bad pet food, so don’t rely totally on their website for the current info.
There are a lot of low income people who can only afford inexpensive food for their pets. At least they are feeding their animals. The animals shouldn’t have to die because their owners do not have a lot of money!

Anyone else notice that no good dog foods have been recalled? Only the cheap stuff indiscrimnate pet owners are keeping afloat has been contaminated with god-knows-what. Maybe it’s a sign, feed your dog well and not on what is essentially corn and a little meat by-product.

That’s not going to be the only recall. Did you hear that they have found Acetaminophen in the cat food and dog food and they have not released the name of the company or the food yet. On Pet connection.com they have from the ASPCA that there is acetaminophen in the pet food. They also have warning signs for the people to look for if their pet gets sick. The article also is in the ASPCA about the toxin in the pet food.

there are 5 toxins in the cat and dog food and here they are .
    Melamine
    cyanuric acid
    amilorine
    amiloride
    Acetaminophen
Some of the foods that have been recalled have these toxins in it and they are also saying that there are foods that have not been recalled yet are laced with Acetaminophen and they don’t know what they are yet and that’s why they are letting people know what to look for in their pets.

Here are the symtomps of Acetaminophen poisoning
    Swelling of paws
    Depression
    weakness
    hard time breathing
Tongue turns a muddy color is due to lack of oxygen.
It affects cats more then dogs.

Science Diet was one of the ones that have Acetaminophen in it.

You mean there are still people that are buying that crap and feeding it to their precious pets? OMG! Unbelievable!

That cheap garbage food belongs in the garbage. Why people would buy that crap is beyond me. I pity the poor dogs that have to eat it.

It is all the more reason not to feed cheap crappy foods made from poor quality ingredients

This is at least the 3 rd recall for Ol’roy and with this following so closely after their canned food incident and in the wake of major massive recalls, dogfood companies should be at the highest level of testing in their history at the moment to ensure every batch is okay so totally amazing that a batch of salmonella tainted food slipping thru now is absolutely ridiculous, the Doane company that is producing should be testing at this time every batch of food they produce with all the problems that are occuring with in the dog food industry, if salmonella has slipped thru than what else is slipping thru in the foods they make

If you buy dogfoods made only food human grade ingredients the risk is almost non existent

choose foods from the 5 and 6 star listing here

I know that NaturaPets has hired a 3rd party lab ( Natura Pet Products has directed an independent laboratory, Midwest Laboratories, to begin a program of testing our ingredients and ALL of our finished products for melamine contamination – this includes dry, canned and baked treats And, as expected, all tests have confirmed that there is no melamine in our foods. Furthermore, Natura Pet Products has incorporated melamine testing as a standard part of our expanded, 120 point ingredient quality control program. This means that all Natura pet foods will be tested and confirmed to be melamine free before being released to the market for resale ) http://www.naturapet.com/

Mama Cat many of the better foods comes very close to the same price when calculated by price per feeding as the amount required to feed is far less, I feed my large breed dogs 1 1/2 cups per day of a very high quality food if I fed Ol’Roy i would need to feed 8 cups per day which means I would need to buy 3 bags of Ol’Roy to evry bag I currently feed add in the price of gas to keep going out to buy more food more often and the difference is only a couple cents fer feeding I save further because I don’t have sick dogs the quality of the food is consistent from bag to bag I also know I am not feeding euthanized pets to my dogs including the drugs used to euthanize like pentobarbital

    http://www.wholepetvet.com/reports/Allman_dfsurvey.htm

problem is people need to be educated not to look soley at the cost per bag but to calculate the cost to feed and they just might learn that they are actually paying more feeding the crap
