What is a reason giving for not liking this song? What is there about it to not like? I like that he says Doctor Zeus, I say it same way from my childhood. I also like the imagery of a sleeping village. So it is irritating to me also that the artist speak against his own song.?
r.e.m dont like this song. how infuriating.?
The song you’re thinking of? is “Man On the Moon.” There’s a line in that song: “Egypt was bitten by a horrible Asp.”
The opening note are of the old song The Lion Sleeps Tonight and I am taking the REM song to have a similar meaning of the village is safe tonight because the lion is sleeping. In the REM song it is a snake I think the singer refers to. Does he not refer to the Asp, the snake of the plagues of Egypt, in another song? The “Sidewinder” is a reptile of the American South, right? So is the song about feeling safe or being? at risk-I do not know.
Being a southerner living in California, I am often disheartened by the episodes of stereotyping and bigotry which I encounter. People in other parts of the world seem to forget that not all southerners are illiterate, hateful or conservative. One thing for which I will always remain grateful to REM was the fact that, as southerners, they demonstrated that we can be as artistic, sensitive, articulate and? intellectual as those from any other heritage. Thanks, guys.
check out my rem – losing my religion cover on? my channel!
Man the memories of my days in Athens during the? 90s.
Muito linda? essa música, aliás adoro todas do R.E.M…
Agreed.?
….Jagermeister, pool halls, late nights, … my? youth!

CALLMEWHENYOUTRYTOWAKEHERUP, CALLMEWHENYOUTRYTOWAKEHERUP!?
torno? in Sardegnaaaaa
I honestly thought he was singing that line In Gaelic, but even now I know the lyric is in English I still can’t make the line to sound like he does!?
All time in? the top three R.E.M songs.
This song is so underrated. Seems like most people think of it as a fun little ditty, but I think it’s brilliant and moving. The organ in the first half, the swelling orchestra in the second half…
I can play it over and over and NEVER get tired? of it. One of my all-time favorites.
i think it? was their biggest selling album ,and remains one of the biggest selling albums of the 90s ,it certainly made them the biggest band in the world for some time ,i still rate them as a bona fide super group ,up there with the greats
