yeah,im watchin it now i jus like posted a question on it to,,,tryna figure out how the hell it would jus collapse like that ,,it is to freaky,,,and scary as hell….
Yeah. It’s just like the final scene in ” The Mothman Prophices” When the bridge collapsed due to the heavy traffic sitting on the bridge.
well, they were doing construction/repairs so its not too much of a suprise, though it is depressing.
I live near there. It is auctually pretty new. 45 years is not considered old for a bridge… There was constuction on it, but they were mostly paving rodes and getting up concrete, but there is always the possibility of a terroist attack, no one can say there wasnt, their main priority is to get people out of there now
i live about 25 minutes away from there and i can’t even believe it. that is so sad i don’t even know how many people died. it is really scary
I guess you never studied “Static and Dynamics.”
Yeah, i live like 10 mins away, and it was really scary because i have been on that bridge like millions of times and i was on that exact bridge earlier today……..
It will be interesting to see how this happened. Probably it was something where there was a stress point that just got worse and worse and then suddenly it caved in.
I pray for the victims, their families, and the rescue workers.
yes..i live 5 minutes way from where that happend..thankfully no one i know got hurt..i heard they were doing maintenance Pray for them :[
yes, I think everybody has heard it by now. yes it is freaky.
I live close to it, it is VERY freaky, and it makes you question what we are driving on everyday! There was a bus loaded with kids coming home from a field trip. 2,000 of the bridge collapsed, the whole thing! With about 600 of it collapsing over the mississippi river of I-35W. Seven are dead so far and over 40 injured and six in critical condition, and being so close it really is freaky to know that anyone could have loved ones on that bridge.
i would hate to be the person on the bridge when that happened. I guess there were even people on bike and some walking when it happened. They changed the operation now. It was a rescue thing and now its just a recovery mission. Pray for the people who might still be missing. And thank god no one i know lives there or anything.
yea, i live in MN, and i use that road all the time to go to piano compettions, and my friend was at the twins game when it collapsed… =[
I live in the area and I can tell you that it’s absoluetly devistating around here!!! There are so many people un acounted for and I can’t believe that something like this happened around here. The news has been covering it non-stop since it happened. This is a major bridge and hundreds of thousands of people cross the bridge daily. Whats scary for me is I was just on the bridge not even a week ago. I can’t imagine having the bridge collapse under you like that. I urge any one in the neighborhood to go and donate blood because there are atleast 79 injured people and the number of fatalities is at for right now but you know that the number is going to rise pretty quickly. Keep the families is your prayers.
yes my dad went across that bridge a week ago!!!
It is scary I came up that way from Oklahoma I35N to 35W and went over about 45mins before it collapsed it is so scary i sit here and thank god and pray for the lost souls.
What an awful tragedy, I used to live there when I went to school down town minneapolis, and my apartment building was kiddie corner from the bridge. My heart ached at the news. After watching hours upon hours of gut wrenching news reels, one thing seemed to ring true. What a miracle it is that people lived! It surprises me how many people did not die that day. I send a prayer up as we speak in thanks to God for keeping people safe that day. It could have been a lot worse. The barge with tourist that passed shortly before, the two lanes that were shut down because of construction, the bus full of children all sixty whom are safe, and the many stories we will hear for weeks to come. My prayers are with those who passed, and I hope yours are as well.
It was a freak accident, not terrorism. I think we all freak, and need to blame someone, but what nature causes. No one is to blame, and no one could have predicted this would happen. There are bridges all over the U.S that are inspected with problems.. and they dont just collapse. It was an awful tragedy, but its not our governments or the person who inspected its fault…
Its a time to pray, help, and comfort, and NOT play the blame game.
sadest scene ever you’d think this only happens in movies…..and now this has happend in your back yard….that bridge was my way to and from school…..my prayers are with the families….thk god my family is on vacation…..called them as soon as i came home…i was in class when it happend
I agree..it’s not time to play the blame game, it is time to mourn, pray, and reflect. I pray that the people left unaccounted for are safe, and may Gods hand be with them. Not only them, but for their families, and everyone else in America. I know it’s hard for the families in MN, but it’s been hard on America as a whole.
Everyone is in my prayers tonight.
agreed about the need for prayers here.
But I wonder how fast people will get around to ‘its Bush’s fault’…
Despite the fact that if any blame is to be placed ..its the state & the locality that is at fault for failing to fix what they already knew was a problem.
It’s very scary to know that it just collapsed. a portion of the I-35W Mississippi river bridge near University Avenue in the city of minneapolis collapsed into the Mississippi River near 6:05pm leaving multiple vehicles in the Mississippi River. Several vehicles also caught fire. as many as 100 cars were involved in the collapse, there had been road construction in progress for several weeks on the bridge, causing traffic to be down to 1 or 2 lanes in each direction. the construction was a mill and overlay project, no structural work was being done. The metal arch bridge was built in 1967 with a length of about 1,900 feet (580 m) and a height of 64 feet (20 m) above the river. The bridge collapsed at 6:08 pm during heavy rush hour traffic – one school bus carrying like 60 children aged 7-15 was on the road near the bridge at the time, all the children aboard the school bus were evacuated safely, but 10 were sent to hospitals with injuries. The City of Minneapolis has declared the collapse a disaster, It appears at this time that the collapse is due to structural problems. As of 7:25 a.m. August 2, 2007, CNN.com reports that the number of confirmed deaths has been dropped from 7 to 4, but the expectation is that number will rise as searches begin for victims in the river, according to KARE-TV 11’s live news coverage as of 10:42pm Central Time, at least one was due to drowning. HCMC (Hennepin County Medical Center) is reporting that they have 22 people with non-critical injuries and 6 people with critical injuries. According to WCCO’s AM 830 live coverage as of 11:38 p.m. C.D.T., approximately 20 people are unaccounted for and considered missing, while 60 people are injured.
Here is the footage from an Army Core of Engineers camera The actual first four section’s falling…..
just after, you can see the fifth section fall.
total 5 sections of the 35W bridge collapsed into the Mississippi river channel.

MY son was about one minute from driving on that bridge. He was in the concrete cloud. Freaked him out as you can imagine. He called me on his cell phone to tell me that the bridge had just collapsed right in front of him
