Response to: “Stephen Hawking is an Idiot” — TheResident www.youtube.com Well it was time to respond to a female user, after 18 parts in the Welcome to Jesusland series. After making this video, I have to say that I do not think TheResident (or Lori Harfenist) is stupid or an ignorant; indeed, she comes across as being well informed on politics. However, she seems to be completely ignorant when it comes to religion and science, especially when she has to respond to a well-known scientist’s simple opinion on the afterlife. So Stephen Hawking is an idiot? Yeah, the man who only enhanced our knowledge of black holes and helped millions of people get interested in science sure has done some IDIOTIC things (sarcasm, of course). Nevertheless, this is like if I were to call Charles Darwin an idiot because of his discoveries on evolution, or Noam Chomsky on his work in linguistics. You cannot simply call an intellectual an idiot because it only makes you look worse. @tarose71 …let me just add to that: anything that appears “supernatural” only does so, because we do not understand it yet. so if a caveman saw our machines, he would think they were supernatural, and if we met aliens, we may think they were supernatural, but ultimately everything CAN be explained, you just have to understand it first. so if walking on water is possible, it is not supernatural, we just dont know how to do it yet, nor understand why it works… nothing needs a god to? explain it
…the thing that bugs me about what she said is that she assumes that? being an atheist means you have no path or belief in anything “spiritual” because you don’t believe in a creator deity… having belief in a deity is (i think) about the least “spiritual” thing you could do, isnt a spiritual life all about becoming a better person & living a good life? …why do i need a god for that? …dont answer, it’s rhetorical, because I already know that I DONT need a god for that, i need CHARACTER

13:45 Given his statements on “stupid design” and how he said all religions he has come across have this ideal of a benevolently ordered universe which goes against all physics, I’d put Tyson in the crowd of brilliant well-known scientists you listed…then again you could? say that about hundreds of individuals and you cannot list that many within a short video.
