I’m an atheist, and watched your video to hear a differing perspective, but it’s clear that you don’t understand what atheism is. Atheism is a default position toward claims of the supernatural cosmos. You tell me that a fairy exists, and I would not believe it for lack of evidence, the same applies to the Abrahamic god, and to the Hindu pantheon.
Atheism does not have shared beliefs, only the lack of certain beliefs. You say it’s irrational to believe the universe came from nothing? I agree.

Your explanation is NOT the rational explanation, you are simply applying God into those aspects of life and existence of wich you do not understand. Scientists and atheists atleast have the DECENCY to admit that they don’t know.

I’m an atheist but I still have friends that are Muslim, Christian, Agnostic and whatever and I always respect them and we are always the best of friends. Continuous emphasis on “you atheists” (as a whole) was unjust, and I have many Theistic friends who are much more loving and reasonable than this. I love the world, I love my life and I love people regardless of their religion… Many of the comments below adequately explained the scientific errors in this video, no need to repeat them đ

Typical religious person, group all atheists into one group and call us names. We do not know that nothing existed, we can only see back to Planck Time. IT IS NOT SCIENTIFIC FACT that it came from nothing. And you seriously think that it makes more sense that a sentient being brought the entire universe into existence, waited billions of years for life to form on earth, wait hundreds of millions of years more until people finally form just to judge those people of their sins? Ridiculous…
@piccolo8344 Furthermore I think thereâs a big difference between dismissing an idea as foolish (belief in god) and dismissing a person as foolish (âfoolish atheists/theists/gnosticsâ). That being said, calling a person deluded for believing in something for which there is evidence to the contrary or no evidence at all seems accurate more than anything else.
@piccolo8344 4) I hope you understand now why the baby analogy doesnât make any sense. We know about meiosis, sexual reproduction, and child birth. There are enormous amounts of evidence suggesting that babies come from their mothers womb. We have no evidence that suggests where the universe came from or how it was formed. Also, the universe and a baby appear to be more dissimilar than they are alike.
@piccolo8344 3) If you believe in some kind of creator, donât you also believe that something can come from nothing? Why not believe only what we know to be true from the collection of evidence (that the universe is expanding and that it seemingly converged at one point in the past) instead of taking a belief you hold for other, non-evidence based reasons, and inserting it arbitrarily into a place you think itâs compatible with the existing evidence.
@piccolo8344 Before we had the heliocentric model of the universe, the earth was assumed both flat and at the center of the universe, because of various biblical accounts. Before we had the theory of evolution by natural selection, people assumed that god created all of the creatures on the planet. What makes you think that the lack of a explanation necessitates a deity?
@piccolo8344 but seeing as how our vantage point is from within the universe, not outside of it, we may never be able to collect the evidence that would lead to that understanding.
2) Whatâs actually irrational is assuming that because we donât have an answer to a question, god must exist. Before we had germ theory it was assumed god was killing people for sinning.
@piccolo8344 Much of this speculation is based around general relativity breaking down. So, for example, A full understanding of quantum gravity could reveal there was no singularity at all. To reiterate, no one is saying the universe happened by coincidence. There is probably a good explanation of how the universe was formed and what caused it to form the way it did
Instead of a hot headed response, I’ve decided to offer you a well though out explanation of why your argument is terrible. I doubt you’ll take any of this to heart as you sound a bit close minded, but I figured I post this for the few non-ironic likes this video received:
1) We donât know what predates the big bang. Youâve assumed it was nothing. To the best of my knowledge any hypotheses of any events predating the big bang are purely speculative. [continued]
