Choice. It’s easier to be led than to think for yourself.
Reading some of the questions(?) posted here one has to come to the conclusion that it is a choice.

We have come a long way in our relatively short time as a nation. Look at where we started and where we are today. I think it’s amazing. So dummies we are not.

Humans are inherently lazy, stupid, and weak.
By design. The current educational system in the US is loaded with things that do not teach critical thinking skills. Multiculturalism, and the required assessment testing have lead teachers to spend more time working on making sure students dont offend and can pass a test that will do little to provide them with thinking skills. The federal Government has taken more and more control of the educational system and it is in there best interest to dumb down the population. I took a CAD class a few years ago at ATI(you may have heard of it) I was amazed to find out I knew more about algebra than our instructor and that was 15 years after I got out of high school. If I had the patience to put up with the liberal garbage that is crammed down the minds of our college students I think going to College today would be easier than when I went through High School.

It is a combination of both.
The school system was designed by the powerful to make Americans a nation of worker bees who sit quietly, doing brainless work that requires no independent thought or initiative. News is presented in third grade terms with all of the gory, upsetting or thought provoking items edited out in order to lead the watcher to the predetermined conclusion. Most local news is fluff and sports.
But Americans choose to be satisfied with the status quo. If you believe what people tell you without researching it yourself, and understanding the deeper and wider implications, it is a choice to be stupid.
I worked at a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company in the months preceding Bush’s shock and awe invasion of Iraq. I felt absolutely hysterical every day hearing about the lead up to the bogus war. I was writing my Senators and US reps and signing petitions and writing op/eds.
My coworkers were more interested in whether there were donuts in the breakroom, who was going to win on Survivor or who The Bachelor was going to pick. It was sick and sad.
I’ll have to go with choice, our education system is so messed up all they way through college. Turns out anti Americans every year and with no common sense.

Design: If you were someone that wants to learn and improve, then you will be held back by people that don’t want you to succeed in life, until they feel like it. For example: You want to learn new words and how to use them correctly in a sentence so that you can have an intelligent conversation with someone, but you are told that your are not to learn that. Or if your writing a book report, and your report was written like an intelligent writer, you will be accused of plagiarism. In a college course will were given a list of words that we had to find the definition of that word and type it, but only to be told that it’s wrong and everyone in class had to use that instructors version that she made us use.
Choice: If your not same as me your not cool. for example: Lets say that you like to read books, and your friends hate reading. if you want to belong then you have say that you can’t read or you hate reading.
Stupidity come in all colors and political parties. The perfect way to combat this is for you to surround yourself with people that will help you grow as an intelligent person and that will accept you for learning new useful skills. Basically if you hang around stupid people you will loose big time. If you associate with people that don’t want you to become a success until they feel like then you need to get away from them as quickly as possible. If you associate with intelligent people you will grow as better person, no matter the political party or color of your skin.
