Question by Andrew: The Minneapolis bridge collapse/ Did they start to clean-up the accident?

I haven’t heard anything about the bridge collapse lately. How is the progress going?

well, if you watch Seconds from Disaster(National Geographic channel), you would see that they look for victims first, then the investigators take over, and clean up as they investigate. when the bridge is totally cleaned up, the contractors take over, check the soil, check the water yadda yadda yadda and make sure the area is safe to rebuild in. hopefully, the bridge will be done by 2020 they are saying. but i recommend that you watch Seconds from Disaster.

i believe they are still searching for bodies. The water is really murky so it is a slow process.

I haven’t seen anything in the news for several days. The best thing to do would be to do a search for it. No doubt there will be some mention of if somewhere.

I’m from and live in Minnesota. The search for victims ended on August 20, 2007, 13 people died due to the accident. There are no longer any other known people missing from the accident. The clean-up for the bridge began on August 5, 2007 after everything was documented. Debris from the bridge is still being removed and the search for victims was difficult due to murky water, high water currents, and the need to be cautious around the surroundings for safety reasons. We still don’t know the exact cause for the bridge to drop, but the girders are being inspected as a probable cause to the fall. With just one failing they say it could cause the whole bridge to drop. The bridge was also under poor conditions which did not help (structurally deficient). It was used for a lot for truck freight, which could of made things a lot worse since some do overload their semi-trucks and it was known to have heavy traffic on its eight lanes. Plans for the new bridge have been started and its Minnesota’s goal to make it compatible with our light-rail system. On the news it has been said that MNDOT wants to have the bridge built sometime by 2008, a lot of people are against it since we want a good high quality bridge to avoid the same accident in the future.
