Pearl Demon Drive design fault Pt.2

Design fault with the Pearl Demon Drive Doublekick pedal. The arm that the spring is attached to bends inward and causes the bolt on the link drive to rub against the other beater’s housing. This happens when the main pedal is attached to the bass drum, the base plate bends slightly causing the support arm to move inward. Likewise when you press the main pedal down the forces cause it to bend inwards further which can cause the beater heads to touch. I have had the bolt on mine filed back so that it does not rub, please see my other demon drive video to view the major problem.

@Jeijo1 Take it back to where you got it from and show them. I took mine back and we were going to swap it but they all did the same thing so I ended up filing the bolt short to fix the problem.
This is a serious problem and they must fix it for you. If you are happy for them to file the bolt then the pedal becomes an amazing and reliable pedal, if not then get your money back.

I was looking for info about this, have the EXACT same problem! Have you got it changed for warranty?

  3. Geoff1928 says:

@lvmdrummer92 It cant be shifted sideways. The left beater is hard against the pillar and the centre link drive must remain straight.

  4. lvmdrummer92 says:

it’s not a fault.. it’s just that your left beater is to much to the right just move it to the left

Yeah, this pedal is crappy made.. Feeling is OK, but new pedal, straight from the shop almost all bearing have a bit of play, on heel block was clicking…

HOW COULD THIS BE MISSED…. Pearl get it together!! i wont buy this peddle untill the problem is fixed!!

  7. Left3332rot says:

slide the beater arms all the way out and they wont touch. I have em and i love em, maybe im wrong but it looked like you had the beater holders slided outward which would bring the beaters very close together.

  8. Pearldrum07 says:

Mine don’t do that… DD are unacceptable

  9. jbundy95 says:

try swapping the beaters, worked for me

@entropyrocks yeah if you loosen the head so that you can easily push it in with your hand you shouldn’t have that problem i play heal down so when i want a dampened hit and the head is to tight it will bounce and it sounds crappy

  11. upbeatmantis86 says:

have you reported this to PEARL yourself..? maybe its a product defect..

  12. Geoff1928 says:

@entropyrocks Can you post a video of what you mean? I would like to see …

  13. entropyrocks says:

@Geoff1928 Its not a technique problem i assure you because i have never had this problem with any other pedals i have had. And also its not the head because it does the double stroke even when its not attached to bass drum. I think i will have to keep on trouble shooting because im not going to adjust the tension, thats the way i like it . =)

  14. Geoff1928 says:

@entropyrocks That would be a foot strength and technique problem. Instead of playing into the head and trying to hold the mallet on the drum, allow it to bounce back, playing a lighter stroke. This is a jazz technique that steve smith has talked about in his dvds. Or you could just loosen your springs or loosen your head.

  15. entropyrocks says:

I don’t have that problem with mine. Maybe its just with a few. But the problem I do have is that i have the spring tension as tight as it will go but i find that when I hit the pedal it double taps. Anyone know what’s wrong with that?

  16. TheLineman73 says:

    Still amazing pedals

  17. darkninja060 says:

my demon drive does that too

  18. mchinodiaz says:

thanks for this video i thought that my pedal was the only one with this problem.

i´m going to cut the bolt too

    God bless you

  19. Geoff1928 says:

correct, because the double pedals are made in such a way that allows you to convert it into 2 single pedals the single support bars are prone to distortion.

  20. AAMetalXJON says:

So is this caused by the fact that the beater assemblies only attatch to their sides support arm? On my DW8002 double pedal both beater assembles are attatched to each other via a bar going across between the supports and the dont bend at all.
