NewsWatch 2007: UC Davis scientists say California must change the way they manage the vast Delta water system or face environmental and economic disaster. Authorities say the magnitude of an unexpected collapse is staggering. The cost of a levee failure could be billion and it would cause severe disruptions to California’s water supply.

Since the first days after Hurricane Katrina, when the streets were still under water, many residents of New Orleans and its surroundings have maintained that the flood that wrecked their lives was the government’s fault, and that the government should pay for it. This was a major uphill battle for residents in these areas, as a major class action lawsuit against the federal government seemed unlikely to see the light of day. However, through the dedication of a team of the nation’s best attorneys, not only did the case make it to court, but a federal judge last week ruled that the failure of the levees was in fact the result of government negligence. Mike Papantonio talks about this with Pierce O’Donnell, one of the lead attorneys on the case.

Hope folks are listening to you all here!
Jay Lund is an awesome professor
i agree it is capitalist….i do see your point and i agree with it………just shows you how words can confuse ideas….depends what that word means to you……gov is a beast when all it does is the bidding of the corps…….peace…i have no fight with you…….
Then you don’t really know what ‘Left’ and ‘Right’ are and are inadvertently doing the bidding of the elites. The relationship you see is a capitalist one… a rightist one… it has little to do with government control and everything to do with capitalist control. Do you really believe that cap and trade isn’t a capitalist solution? No, the problem isn’t government per se, it’s that it’s controlled by the capitalist elites. Gov’t isn’t a beast, it is a necessity of civilized society.
control is control and tax is tax…………the gov, either one, is merely a tool of the corps…..do you really believe cap & trade is anything other than a tax to take yet more money from all to line the pockets of the elitist corps even further???? do you really believe the cozy relationship between goldman sachs and the white house will further the common good???? i am afraid i see left and right as the same beast………
But the mega corporations are dominant just because people ignore the left/right divide and the existence of class conflict. Both of which have allowed the rightists to gain ascendency, which then deregulates, lower taxes on the wealthy and pays homage to fallacious ‘free-markets’, which only serves to give more and more to the elites, which in turn gives more and more to the power to the mega corporations.
The ‘Left’ is right…
The ‘Right’ is wrong!
you get 5* for bringing up the topic and fighting the fight ….but shame on you if you keep up the left right divide……it is all the mega corporations……….they are in control………
